How you choose outside preachers

    So as not to derail the other thread.

    What determines who you allow to speak from your pulpit? This would not just be preachers but also other groups like missionaries or Gideons and the like.

    Cost? Doctrine? Social Standing? Good Speaker, Education, Dress..... what other factors.

    Most of the missionaries we support share our doctrinal distinctives, so there is trust already established. Other than missionaries no one else preaches from our pulpit other than our elders. A guest speaker is not strictly off limits, but there would have to be a good reason for his being invited to preach.

    I agree about the missionaries. When we had staff, I used them when i was away. But now God's blessed us with 1 very good preacher and 2 good Bible teachers as members. But we have used outside speakers.

    Again, do outside speakers command a fee? Wouldn't that affect choice?

    you'll have to ask outside speakers what they command. it doesn't affect a choice

    We tend to have those who have a relationship with us but last year for 9-11 and this year we have a guest speaker who was only one of four survivors from above the impact zone of the South Tower. Last year we had one guy and this year we have the guy who that guy saved. :) I'm not sure how we chose them or if any of our people have a relationship with them but I heard the guy last year was very good.
