No one on their deathbed has said, "Gee, I wish I'd spent more time at the office."

It isn't hard to figure out. I've read a number of articles and at least one book on "Last Words". No one has come even close to such a statement. The samples indicate people are thinking of many areas of life other than the office.

Where do people say they wish they had spent more time? -- the gym? the golf course? the bar? the theater? down at the crawdad hole?

The people whose deathbeds I've been at haven't said much about their time. Most have been pretty silent.

The ones that did speak often were more concerned with the immediate.

One wanted darker towels because the blood was scary.
Another talked about where money was hidden.
Another was just a doll and simply wanted me to be there...he talked about the weather, the sunshine, his wife, his toes.

I think the only actual regrets I ever heard came from women who said they wished they'd saved money aside so they could have had choices in life when their husbands left them or treated them bad. I never heard a guy state any wishes. Except the one who said he wished he could have gone fishing again, but that wasn't really a regret, he was just thinking of it at the time, it seemed, went out with us talking about going fishing.

Mickey Mantle wished he had worked harder, and taken life more seriously.
