The coming Obamacare fight holds real peril for Republicans, too

Indicates wishful thinking on the part of the liberals who want this law to become reality in the U.S. Even if partially implemented next year, the American people know enough about it now that a Republican majority in both houses will repeal this stinking piece of garbage from our law books and do something realistic about health care costs.

 

That's wishful thinking as well. It would take both houses under Republican control AND a Republican president. The last time we had that was W's first term and the Repub's didn't touch health care.

 

We agree on this one. With leaders like Mitch McConnell and Speaker Bonehead, RINOs, about as much will get done to repeal Obamacare as the same Republicans did about abortion, the deficit, Social Security, and Medicare, not one thing.

 

So what? ......

 

I was responding to thisnumbers assertion that if the Republicans had control of both houses they would address health care. Well, they controlled everything in Bush's first term and did nothing to health care.

 

I understood that what I am trying to figure out is how you believe that speak to whether or not they would in the future. I do not see anything that ties one to the other. There are so many variables to explain the difference I would not know where to begin.

 

Sure, it's possible that Repubs might address health care reform in the future but traditionally it has not been one of their signature issues.

 

I'm afraid that the necessary requirement is to get CONSERVATIVES, not necessarily Rs, in control. Just Rs of the current variety is no assurance of any major changes - and I'm afraid also that this includes "O"-care!!!

 

They would almost certainly have the repeal of Obamacare as one of their promises, which would convince the American people that they would totally do it, because politicans totally fulfill... their... promises.... sorry, I forgot what kind of people we were talking about here.

Obamacare being repealed is a pipe dream. Never going to happen.


PS. In 2007, I said that Obama's campaign would go away. I don't exactly have a sterling reputation for political predictions.

 

Undoubtedly the Democrats will unleash the IRS on the GOP if the GOP stands up to Obamacare and refuses to fund it.

Another group that is in peril is organized labor for their demand that the forty-hour work week be preserved and that Obamacare be thus amended. The Unions, also, can expect trouble from the IRS and Obama. It looks as if the Unions are being pushed out of the Democrat Party by the three main groups what make up the Democrat coalition.

 

Only the Tea Party wing, such as Senator Rand Paul, has the backbone to vote to defund Obamacare. What do you think the chances are of that happening, the Tea Party getting a majority in both Houses? The idea of believing that the RINOs will defund it other than as a vote getting gimmick, is a fairy tale. What have the Republicans done about the deficit, Social Security, Medicare, immigration and border control, stopping gay rights or curbing abortion since 1989 when our last legitimate President Reagan left office?

 

I am merely agreeing with Crabtown that the GOP can expect retaliation if they do not do what Obama demands. I think that they will cave as always. They seem to be headed towards Christie to run against Hillary so it looks as if Hillary will win in 2016. Biden will be left out.

However, I think that the labor unions will lose also. As the old saying goes, you cannot make an omelet without breaking some eggs, so I think that the forty-hour work week will fall victim to Obamacare. Of course, labor unions have priced themselves out of the marketplace and that is the reason that so many union members are now federal workers, who have been given special privileges under Obamacare. We are all created equal but in Washington DC some are more equal than others.

Crabtown is right that there will be many losers with Obamacare. The main loser will be any hopes of improving the standard of living in America, in my opinion.
