Why would God allow this? Is my Calvinist friend in sin?

I had a street preaching friend in SC during my time there and he was very bold, he would go when no one else would, he stood out in the icy cold winters in SC, and he was not afraid to stand all by himself proclaiming the word of God. He gave me inspiration during the days we both lived in SC.

However I recently learned he has moved to Vermont and has no opportunity to open air preach given how rural and remote Vermont is. I am sad by this news and I have to wonder why God would allow this, and I also wonder if this man is in sin, and God has silenced him. Or another possibility is that since Greenville, SC has lots of christians, & lots of culture christians whom are not the real deal, maybe just maybe God has given them over to their own lusts as several open air preachers no longer preach there. I guess no one knows for sure, but why would God allow this?

Why would he be in sin? Is he attending a Bible believing church that preaches the Gospel? Is he active in the church? What was his reason for moving to Vermont? Street preaching is only one type of preaching. Perhaps God is working providentially in his life.

Yes perhaps. However I thought him best as a street preacher, however only God knows what is best.

I doubt that God moved him to Vermont to silence him. Sometimes I think we have our own ideas how we would like to serve God – but in reality we are to serve Him where ever we are. Perhaps he can no longer be a “street preacher,” but that does not mean that he is “silenced.” In life things happen and we often relocate.

You are a street evangelist – but that doesn’t define you. It is what you do - not who you are. What defines you is Christ (you wouldn’t be less a Christian if God called you to Vermont – although you may have a difficult time adjusting and finding a new role in the Kingdom work).

To put it in secular terms – I am a soldier and have been a solider for over 22 years. That is not really who I am, but what I do. As I approach retirement, it is a scary time. I have to assume a different role and look at a lifestyle that I am not really comfortable with. That’s life.

If this worries you, I'd recommend calling your friend and talking to him. If he recently moved, he may need the comfort of a friend and brother in Christ. We all need encouragement (but if you do, call for him – not to satisfy your concerns).
