Ok, I’m starting to think that bee stings are worse as you get older. They didn’t bother me at one time, but here it is about 5am and I can’t sleep. I was stung in the arm (only once) and it is awful. Arm swollen, itchy, and can't sleep. Oh well.

I have developed a reaction to wasp stings in my old age. :love2: If I get stung once, it will swell up. The doctors say i have to stay away from them or possibly start carrying an epi pen because the reaction gets worse as time goes by.

You can gain allergies as you mature.

Follow Tom's advice. Talk to your doctor. You probably should start carrying an epi pen.

So true. I still remember from years ago my BIL got stung and almost died due an allergic reaction (that he didn't even know he had!) to the sting. Thankfully my DS & BIL didn't live too far from an ER. There they were able to treat the swelling in his airway just in time & give him meds/epi pen! PTL

Not too long after that incident, my late mother (who loved to garden) had a similar reaction.

Both of these incidents were long before the current 911/EMS services were developed as much as they are today.

I certainly thank God for getting both of my family members through what could easily have been disasters for them & my family. And I thank God also for the dedicated people serving in our 911/EMS systems today!

I guess this does make sense. When I was a teenager I would pull poison ivy off of our trees – no gloves, no sleeves, and no reaction. Now I am allergic.

Did you take any Benadryl for the sting? That might help if you haven't. If you have, I'd call your doctor this morning to speak to him about maybe carrying an epi pen.

I fortunately am not allergic to bee stings but I AM now allergic to poison ivy. Like "having to go on steroids" bad. :( It definitely stinks. It's not because I'm older but because I got poison ivy on me when I had a cut on my arm and it got in the cut. I do NOT recommend doing that!
