Jesus is the gate, narrow is the way. There is only one way that leads to eternal life among the many ways.

Jesus is the only way, just think about how many in the world have tried to enter into salvation by other means besides Jesus and you have "Many who seek to enter". Mormons, Muslims, by works, RCC, etc.

My question comes in part because he speaks in terms which, if He is the narrow gate He isn't saying anything about other ways here. It is that He says 'many will seek to enter in at the narrow gate and wil not be able'.

That is not what He says, heaven/eternal life is what many will seek to enter and will not be able because they sought another way - the broad way (previous verse) apart from Jesus Christ.

    That is so true.

Hence - Matt 10 - "He who does not take up his cross and follow me..." -- many seek "another avenue" to heaven.

1Cor 9:23 "I buffet my body and make it my slave lest after preaching the gospel to others I myself should be disqualified"

Its man trying to attain salvation on his own. It is also proof that total depravity is a false doctrine.

What then is the narrow gate that many,... will seek to enter
in, and shall not be able.
If someone is seeking to enter through Jesus (assuming He is the Gate here) why won't they be able to do so?

The narrow gate is the only way to salvation. People think they are entering through that gate through their filthy rags. Jesus turns no one away who comes to him in humility.
