We often think the Lord is with us and we're having a wonderful time in His Presence when the Amen's are being shouted; folks are jumping pews; the throwing up of hands and arms in the air; sashaying with the music; kicking up our heels; slapping each other on the back, etc.

I'm afraid this just isn't so.

On the contrary, when the Lord does make His presence known and felt during any service, this very fact will suppress all the nonsense. People and their antics will become extremely respectful, civil and the mood will become solemn. This, the result of being awestruck by the very presence of God leave no room for gymnastics.

A lot of nonsense occurs in some churches under the guise of "worship".

My thoughts, too. To avoid offending any "signs and wonders" folks around, that's all I'll say.

When we read Revelation we can see directly how those in direct presence of The Lord conduct themselves. It is clear to me that it is orderly worship. Mostly consists of praise and falling on their faces in his presence

    Revelations 4:9

9 Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), 10 the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,

11 “You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
    For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

While jumping the pews and running around the sanctuary are excessive and out of order, let’s not allow that broad brush to wipe away raw emotion including overwhelming joy when the Lord make's a particular aspect of Himself crystal clear to someone.

I attended an honest to goodness "jumping church" a few decades ago, and I know what that looks like. Much of it was unnecessary and out of order. But there are occasions when the move of God is overwhelming for a person and that overwhelming emotion will manifest itself in an emotional manner. We used to see this even in our old “buttoned-down” Baptist churches back when we had revivals and people walked down the isle at the end of a service to earnestly pray. In my recent experience we don’t do that stuff anymore except for some fundamental Baptist Churches

King david must have missed that part, as he was dancing pretty wild when they got back the Ark!

I'd imagine he did miss it when he lived many years before Paul's teachings

LOL Are you sure you're not suppressing the Spirit if you suppress what happens when you feel joy?

Now if you're hopping over the pews when you're being taught about how to live holy, you might have a problem, but if you're singing about how much joy you have and you look like your dog just vomited on your wingtips, maybe there's an issue there that needs to be thought on.
Now if anyone is going all Rupaul and sashaying to music, I think they need to keep that type of dancing at home at all costs! I think dancing in worship is fine, but there are LINES here people!

Where does it say "wild," and what was the location of this dancing?

2 Samuel 6:14 says "And David was dancing before the LORD with all his might," as the Ark was brought from the threshing floor of Obed-edom into the tabernacle.

I'm not sure that qualifies as "Holy Spirit fervor" though. I think He, too, prefers order and dignity.

Yes, everyone here is right. We should make sure we are completely solemn when we worship. After all, raising our hands, the clapping of hands, and shouting in praise are not mentioned anywhere in the bible - therefore, we shouldn't do any of that.

Okay, here's how I feel: the things I mentioned in their proper time and place can be done without seeming improper, and at those times, I take no offense when someone expresses worship or praise in a biblical way.

I determined a few years ago that I was not going to elevate my preferences in worship to the level of scripture and say that expressions of worship used in the bible must be forbidden in the modern church. I think the key to this is knowing the difference between preference (which can be good or bad) and what scripture teaches.

When preferences are strictly enforced, that indicates selfishness - and in my view we become guilty of adding our preferences to scripture and elevating them to that status.

We never ever say y'all up here in Yankee land....we do say ya for you. And people from Scranton are infamous for killing the language...with their rendition of the term " isn't it"....that term becomes "hayna" & lastly the word "three" becomes "tree" as in one, two, tree.

I think yall have been watching to much tv. It's not hard to find a uneducated ignoramus with a hillbilly accent to parade around on tv and give the impression all southern people are barefooted and illiterate. Unfortunately due to the discovery channel and national geographic here lately that has become the image. Well, actually TV and Hollywood has been doing that a long time not just lately. It's sad that only southern people can be made fun of but anything else is racist and bigoted.

    Anyway back on subject....

In all fairness, Johnny, EW&F was making fun of his fellow "back Easters," too. And being from one of the handful of states that is identified as "hillbilly" in makeup, I can make fun of myself if I want to.
