With some fear and disappointment. Working extra, on break right now, making a doctors appointment to see what medications can be taken that will get me through working more, knowing it will land me in the hospital after a bit but will at least keep us going for a little longer.
Gotta do what you gotta do.
That's about the only reaction there can be - try to survive without what was promised and hope it gets fixed soon, but preparing right now. Now back to work...

The checks will go out, so the American public will have nothing before them that requires a reaction.

Floods of angry phone calls and angry emails to their elected representatives followed by re-electing them next election.

Well, Reid said he would make sure they wouldn't, even though the legislation was passed.
You can SAY they'll go out, but everything in the news is saying that if the government doesn't reopen, they won't.
"Maybe" isn't something to count on.
But for whoever said everyone would get angry and then re-elect the exact same people, lol, yep. That's exactly right.
The last time the government shut down, the approval rating fell, then soared way up after it reopened.
People either have very, very short memories or we have seen mass cases of a type of Stockholm syndrome on more than one occasion throughout history.

The only one saying those checks won't go out is Treasury Secretary Richard Lew. But the reality is, he doesn't have the power to stop them from going out. For one thing, the money funding those checks has already been allocated. As entitlement programs, regardless of Lew's fear-mongering, the government can't prevent benefits funded by the social security tax or by defense authorization bills from being paid.

The administration and the liberal media would have you believe your check is in jeopardy from Republicans. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just because they say it doesn't mean it's true, and it's not.

It's not the government shutdown that is threatening these checks not going out. It's not raising the debt ceiling. If the debt ceiling is not raised the Treasury department will have to pick and choose which financial obligations they will pay, and leave others unpaid. Once we get past the November 1st SS checks, if they indeed pay them, there will not be enough money to make the next batch of SS payments.

Talking about military related disability. Harry Reid specifically addressed that, and put his foot down, calling it piecemeal legislation that he would do everything in his power to stop.
It's also been in the various news sources as strong possibility of not happening.
They have mentioned military retirement pay too, but that one is more cloudy.
Not that anything at all has been extremely specific in all of this.
Some veteran benefits already seem to have been halted. In some areas, it seems some exact benefits have been given to some in one state while in others, the exact same ones have not. Very weird.
