Macys will open at 8 PM on Thanksgiving Day.

If I owned a big box store, I would open at 1 O'clock. - that would be 1 pm on FRIDAY - and I would not permit any employee to arrive before 12 noon on Friday. Also, the store would close at 4 pm on Wednesday.

The reason for that policy would be so my employees would be able to fully enjoy Thanksgiving.

Just my 3 cents worth (sorry inflation hit)

I agree completely. The Missouri legislature has a bill in the hopper for consideration (unfortunately, not until the winter session beginning January 6) that, if passed, will forbid any but "essential retailers" (service stations, grocery stores) from opening before midnight Friday (as Thanksgiving ends).

as much as that would be nice, I doubt it would pass constitutional muster.

They always held "blue laws" to be constitutional, so I think this would also stand. I might be wrong, though.
