The Republican Party in its present state is on the edge of extinction. Any casual observer over the past three weeks can see the party is about as effective as a eunuch being a father. The Democrats shellacked them. The Democrats crushed them in the 2012 Presidential election.

Republicans are going to have to do a major self examination. It has got to return to conservative, Constitutional roots. There has got to be a Republican Presidential nominee to lead the party like the charisma and leadership of Ronald Reagan. The McCains and Romneys have got to stop.

The only way to win is to be conservative. The only way to effect change is to stop fighting the Tea Party as a small faction. The Tea Party must become the majority in the party.

Spineless and inept leaders like McConnell and Boehner must go. As with the Presidential nominee, the leadership has got to be dynamic and decisive.

The evening ended with the likes of Senator Vitter (Senator Stand By My Woman After I Pay A Prostitute) lecturing the American people on the right and moral thing to do about Obamacare in relation to the Congress and its staff. The message may or may not have been correct, but one might as well have had Mr Ed argue the case. As least it would have come from a true heart.

That would be fine by me. Kentucky does have one decent Senator. Another good candidate for either President or Vice President is Ben Carson.

Boehner needs to go. I like Carsons views but I do not think he has the ability to survive a campaign.

The GOP is done for (IMO).

They should have accepted ObamaCare, mocked and ridiculed its failures along the way and used the disaster (along with a cure) as an election platform in 2014, 2016.

Now the Dems will continously blast the Republicans for making America the laughing stock of the world and the party which denied our veterans of their rights and their families of their death benefits which will eclipse Bengazi, Fast an Furious and and all the other failures of the present administration.

Whether true or not the American public believes the gridlock is the Republicans fault and the progressives will "capitalize" on it over and over and over again along with their PR office, the American press.

Get ready for Hillary, which means Bill will be back in the White House for another 8 years.

True she has a very thin resume apart from "holding" two offices but didn't our current president (senator, community organizer?).

This is just false. Everyone including the President is getting the blame.

S/N, PM me when you get over this irrational anti-GOP jag you're on today, so I can start reading your posts again.

I know you find it hard to believe but sometimes the GOP deserves criticism. When conservatives like SN and me point this out people like you have kittens. Your attitude seems to be "my party, right or wrong!"

Their absolutely incompetent handling of the government shutdown and debt ceiling process is Exhibit A. Their resolution of it will be Exhibit B.

I agree. I have criticized them. For one thing, I suggested McConnell et al get out of the House GOP's way and let them handle the negotiations, since the Senate Republicans seem bent on giving up on the entire agenda to delay or defund the ACA.

You attach a label to both you and S/N that is incorrect. You may think you are conservatives, but you neither one can be so described. You are moderates at best.

It is. But it is wrong on occasion, and I do not hesitate to point that out. Should they cave on this mission they're on -- as it becomes increasingly likely they will -- you will see a lot of "wrong" being pointed out by this member.

You call it incompetence. That doesn't make it incompetence. It isn't, in fact. What it is, is a rational effort to meet the expectations of the majority opinion of the American electorate: The ACA is bad for families, bad for business, bad for the budget and the federal deficit, and needs to be blocked, repealed, defunded, or delayed.

In that, you may be right, if they do indeed fail to keep those objectives in focus in formulating that resolution.

The Democrats are right--we are going to a one-party system with only the Democrats left standing. The GOP caved and they have abandoned their base so that the base has to look for another party.

I told one of my friends this very same thing. The leadership needs to know when to fight and when to let folks devour themselves and ensuingly reap the benefits. They got it before Newt became Speaker. And then they figured it out again during the 2010 midterm elections.

This would have been the perfect opportunity, but once again the so called leadership botches things over a fight they couldn't win anyway.

    Pretty much.

    I think you nailed it.

I've just got kudos all around today.:applause: Based upon decisions in the last few years by the leadership of the GOP, I'm more inclined than ever to believe that they are in cahoots with the leadership in the Dems to produce one majority party. Part of my One World government theory.

Naw, the GOP split into the McCain-Graham types and the conservatives. It is not one world yet. Maybe McCain and Graham and types like them can be purged but right now they have the money.

Given the devastating economic impact of the program, I'm not sure there will be anything to run for in 2014, or 2016, if you haven't done the absolute level best within you to stop this disaster from happening. Seldom is the hero after a train wreck the one that says, "I told them they should have fixed that switch!"

True, but the majority progressive press (minus Fox) is putting the bulk of the blame on Republican congressmen and I believe that is how it will eventually play out in the next election - the Republicans will get the major blame with graphics showing our veterans being shafted by congress.

I understand that the president probably knew of the death benefit denial on day one or that it was going to happen even before it was made newsworthy and he could have nipped it in the bud.

Ted Cruz will get the brunt of it all. Boehner right behind him.

I understand that Obamas water carriers are doing that but the average American is not buying it.

This is where you are wrong, and usually you are correct. It is my position about transforming the GOP into a conservative, Constitutional party that is its only hope, and the time may have run out. They have been nominating liberals and moderates for President since 1988.

In another post, you said I was a moderate at best. That is way off base. Your appeasement of the Speaker and McConnell puts you square in that category. In fact, you are giving the Democrats indirect support. Anyone who thinks Boehner and McConnell, and the establishment Republicans like them, are enemies of the Democrats are fooling themselves. In fact, you might as well be a Democrat.

You have an odd way of expressing yourself as a conservative and a Constitutionalist. Another point, is we are friends, and you should be able to engage me regardless of what I post as long as it is not demeaning towards you. As brothers in Christ, we are not expected to agree on every issue.
