Am I an embarrassment to the Fundamentalist movement?

    I attended BJU for 2 years in seminary and worked there as a GA. However after I left BJU I got really into The Way of the Master and started to open air preach. However I noticed that all of my BJU friends except for one person whom is really into Paul Washer kept their distance from me and would not evangelize with me, because open air preaching is against BJU rules. My theology has also leaned far more towards Reformed since leaving there, and I also am no longer a teetotalist and believe in moderation with alcohol. I have not tried to cause division or anything and have spoken honestly about BJU. During my many days of street witnessing in Greenville I got questioned many times about BJU and I spoke praises as well as concerns so I was honest. Many on the streets of DT Greenville knew I came from BJU, and even once I got interviewed on Fox Carolina regarding my street preaching ministry. In a small town like Greenville surely word of me reached their ears. I ran into many former students whom chatted with me on the streets of greenville and we seemed to be in fellowship.

    Maybe I have been ostracized within some BJU circles and active faculty is not to fellowship with me. Or maybe I am just dreaming and imagining all this. I guess no one really knows. I have tried to friend some ACTIVE staff on FB and my requests have been ignored, I have tried to contact some active staff and my letters have not been returned. I just wonder... I was on Fox Carolina and I know BJU saw it because they interviewed me personally.

    Well if true or not God is in control. Ray Comfort has made many enemies, Jesus had many enemies, and so will all whom boldly proclaim the gospel.

    They are squirmy people my friend. You MUST follow the direction the Lord take you, not the opinions of people who have it in their minds that they are God's Elite & that they need to have distance from anyone else. To my way of thinking, they would be better defined as the "HYPERS".

    I asked you this before but I dont recall an answer......"Have you ever studied the Revivalists.....people like John & Charles Wesley, George Whitefield, Jonathon Edwards etc? I think you will find much of your answers there..... Both Whitefield & Edwards in particular.

    Maybe in seminary. What books can you recommend? What were you thinking? As I recall Way of the Master loves those preachers.

    Brother, not that you ask for it but here is my advice to you. I believe you are in Colorado now, not SC. If its not already it will soon be cold/frigid weather probably, unlike anything you've experienced before. Take one week, or two weeks will be better, grab your lovely bride, and when you get off work go to a park, drive to a rural area have a picnic whatever. Turn off BB, turn off Facebook, leave your books at home, take a break from street preaching, etc. etc. Just enjoy some time with your wife and enjoy the beautiful part of the country where God has led you and stop worrying about what this person or that person thinks about anything, it doesn't matter anyways. (Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.)

    Part of trusting in God's sovereignty is learning to rest in it, learning to accept the mystery of it all.

    Very wise advice. We did that after we got married. Maybe do it again? Getting her to shut her phone off is impossible but I can manage. I leave it at home often when going to church as I am so tired of phone bibles.

    Your first year of marriage is very, very, very, important, need a lot, and a lot of time together, put some of this other stuff to the side for a while. Focus on each other for a while not the professors at BJU. I got married a little later than most, and was set in my ways, it is a huge adjustment and I have many regrets that I did my own thing, without doing more with my wife on weekends, etc.

    Probably a good reason not to work any job that takes me away from my wife, so first shift is the best choice rather than a night and weekend job where I would never see her. They are harder to find, but still plenty of them out there. I admit marriage is not easy and we have our disagreements and own issues. One of them is that she insists on only passing out "God Loves you" tracts and refuses the Way of the Master or any tract that confronts sin. I believe God can use other tracts, Erwin Lutzer tracts, and such, but God rejoices with tracts that confront sin hard. Also her church uses an Arminian evangelism form which I disagree with and will not join their class because of it. I agreed to help them go door to door, but I am not disobeying the Bible and must confront sin using the 10 commandments to do so. She has finally come to respect my wishes in this area. I am not backing off my convictions nor the scripture. Its not about me, its about the souls of men and women! I let her use the God Loves you tracts with every thank you card we mailed off to people for our reception although I was against it, but she insisted on not offending people with my tracts. Yes God can use those tracts to bring people to salvation, but He rejoices with tracts that confront sin.

    Those who are lost need to be confronted with the fact that they have violated God’s law as revealed in their conscience and as explained in the Bible. They are under condemnation and need to understand their brokenness. But bringing the lost under the OT Law as a Schoolmaster….I don’t think that this was the intent of Paul’s words. It is important to remember that the Law as a Schoolmaster was not only the Ten Commandments and it was dealing with those who were under the Law. IMHO, to say that we need to use the OT Law in order to bring people to Christ really seems to be the opposite of Galatians 3:23.



    In the past I believe it was appropriate to use the Ten Commandments, and it is still appropriate depending on the situation. But we live in a post-Christian society and I am not sure that this is still the best method – particularly since it is not prescribed in Scripture to reach the non-Jewish lost. It would be just as biblical to evangelize with the expectation that the Holy Spirit brings people under conviction – they are under conviction outside of the OT Law – and this “law” written in their own conscious is just as valid in terms of Gentile condemnation.



    I guess my question is why you think that God rejoices with tracts that “confront sin hard” in a world that is already judged and under condemnation? Does God not rejoice with tracts that demonstrate God’s own love, or Christ’s atoning work on the Cross?



    Lastly, why would a difference in understanding the relationship between human responsibility and divine sovereignty cause you to exclude yourself from a class? If they are brothers in Christ, it seems that this would be a great opportunity to learn, teach, and grow. I ask because it seems to me that we often have a problem of allowing differences to become divisions instead of being united in Christ (it would be different if they were not Christian, but our soteriological understanding is not what saves us). Perhaps that class is precisely where you ought to be.
