Just worked as a carpenter? I've heard some believed he might have traveled to India. I would just like to hear opinions. Maybe I hope he traveled and spent time in other areas, but I have no idea. Although this verse make me think he had done some traveling? Luke 2:52
    English Standard Version
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

He did what He did. We are not told. How can we say He went to India? What Scripture is that? I say He went to Disney - and I'd have as much support for my assertion as any other since, after all, He was God. ;)

Traveling is highly unlikely as his family was poor. Most people in his day grew up, lived, and died within about 10 miles of their birthplace or family town.

    We don't know.

he helped out his family, worked as a Carpenter, preparing Himself for his 'real job"...

one thing though, positive that he did NOT go to Tibet to learn from lamas their "eastern religion", nor went to learn Hinduism or any other religion!

Many say Joseph may have died early, meaning Jesus would have taken care of the family.

I believe I know what you mean, but I just want to point out that Jesus working as a carpenter, serving His family, and everything else He did and experienced ("growing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man") was just as much His "real job" as His three year public ministry.

The work we do, day in and out as part of the daily grind, is just as much our "real job" of ministry as the work we do that is explicitly connected to the church.

All of our life is to be holy and we are to bring the Kingdom of God into every aspect of it, even if it is making widgets in a factory, tilling a field, or selling insurance.

    Mark 6. NASB
1 Jesus went out from there and came into His hometown; and His disciples followed Him.
2 When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?
3 "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him.
4 Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household."
This answers the question. The people of Nazareth knew Him as a carpenter, and His reputation as a carpenter was good enough for them to respect Him in that profession, but not in His "new" career as prophet and teacher. As has been said, the time between the ages of 12 and 30 were spent learning both the carpenter's trade and learning from His heavenly Father, so that He would be good at both trades when the time came to exercise them

I would imagine Jesus was an outstanding carpenter. He gives indication of this fact in the gospel of the tax collector.

    Matthew 11
29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

In this passage, Jesus uses language a farmer would understand. He is speaking of an "easy yoke" and that opposes the "tight yoke" placed upon the experienced ox in any given pair. A "tight yoke" was fitted to the older of the two oxen. It fit the older ox perfectly, conforming to his specific neck musculature so that it provided no "wiggle room" when the animal was strapped into it. This was done so that when he turned, the yoke would "follow him" and the other side of that yoke -- the "easy yoke" -- would gently prod the younger, inexperienced ox to turn with the older one. In using the "tight yoke, easy yoke" system, the farmer easily trained his younger animals the routine of being "in the yoke" and following the farmer's commands.

So we are with Jesus. He is the "lead ox" and our side of the yoke is the "easy yoke" allowing us some movement for error but not letting us stray too far from the expectations placed upon us. The difference, of course, is that we willing fit ourselves into the yoke, whereas the young ox may not be quite so willing a pupil. I've speculated, since learning of this truth, that most farmers were amazed that, upon first fitting their older animals with the "tight yoke," they would find that it fit perfectly, not requiring a refitting or planing of the yoke so that it fit better. How did He do that?

Well, He not only made the yoke, He made the animal. That's how.

Well He went to the University of Jerusalem until he was 24 and then He attended Seminary. This took Him to age 27 where He earned His MDiv (taking summer course as well). For the nest 3 years He served at First Baptist Synagogue as associate synagogue ruler.

Where did Jesus say it was His "main" job to die?

When I read the gospels, I see something quite different:

    Luke 4:16-21, 42-43

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,
To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.

And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing...”

...When day came, Jesus left and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were searching for Him, and came to Him and tried to keep Him from going away from them. But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.

For this purpose Jesus came, to take up the Cup, and to die as the lamb of God, to bear the sins of all whom would get saved!

If that's all it was, why wasn't the incarnation of Jesus much shorter? Why all of the preaching and teaching about the kingdom? Why a three-year ministry at all? And why did Jesus state that He was anointed to preach the kingdom of God, bring good news to the poor, etc...?

Questions: Could He have foregone the ministry and gone straight to the Crucifixion and achieved His purpose?

    vs. ...

Could He have presented His ministry and not gone to the cross and achieved His purpose?

If we go with what is popularly taught (Jesus came primarily to suffer and die for our sins), then yes, that would make more sense.

From everything we know, Jesus needed to suffer, die, AND be raised and ascend to the right hand of the Father.

I'm not saying that Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension was not part of the essential ministry of Jesus, but we do a great disservice to Jesus when we reduce His incarnation to just those elements - especially when He explicitly explained the purpose of His life and ministry.

To a great extent, true, but nonetheless, His primary purpose was to deal with the sin of man by dying in man's place on the cross, so all who would be could be reconciled to God. He could have done nothing else and still accomplished this primary purpose. We are obviously fortunate that He also spent three and a half years sharing God's own heart as to what living the life that results from that sacrifice is really about.
