This is ridiculous. I do not care what party a 90 year old is affiliated with when they apply for a voter ID with an expired drivers license. Is he suddenly illegal? What, other than age, changed about him. To deny a former House Speaker because of an expired driver's license is nonsense and a faculty identification card.

Here is a list of the acceptable forms of photo ID:

Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
    United States passport

With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place

It is still ridiculous to deny a 90 year old a voter ID card on such grounds. He didn't change and if he were legal when he got the drivers license he did not suddenly become an illegal, evil, nasty, malicious, fraudulent person just because he became old, gave up driving and did not renew his license.

What is ridiculous is whining about an elderly person and a former representative who should know better who did not abide by the law. There are several options other than his expired DL. There is no excuse. Even our representatives need to obey the law.

What is shameful is trying to use an elderly person to make hey out of nothing just because you want illegals to vote and expand the dems voting base.

Are you trying to tell me a 90-year-old man doesn't have any of those forms of ID? B/S!! And he certainly, as a former lawmaker, knew he had to have one of them in order to vote. He's just trying to generate a lawsuit to overturn the law. Bad news for him: It won't work.

Good. It's about time these morons are held to the same laws as the rest of us.

Interesting though, that you believe he's entitled to special treatment because he's a politician.

So, why a 90 year old? And if a 90 year old, then why not an 80 year old? And if an 80 year old...

If an individual finds these requirements difficult, he isn't qualified to vote for dogcatcher, let alone a federal office.

It is stupid to think that a 90 year old with an expired drivers license is not who the expired license says they are. I am not saying there should not be checks ... but there should be some rational thought put into the law.

You are referring, of course, to that failed abortion attempt called "OBAMA CARE" ????

(And no, this is not off topic, as YOU introduced the combination of rational thought and the law.

The problem is that you also said this:

And that's what I was referring to. His having been a House speaker should have no bearing whatsoever. He did not follow the law and no special treatment was given to him. I say that's a good thing. You seem to think otherwise.

I would like to see the author of this thread address this point. It's almost like he's keeping his mind closed.
