Is it just me, or has the use of cuss words (actual or implied) gotten out of hand? As in, they shouldn't be used at all on the board, but are being used? I just read in a thread where a poster used the phrase, "How in hell...". Another post a while back, someone responded to a post with, "This is pure B.S."

To avoid what may be seen as a hypocrisy, I have posted before that I reject the idea of words being "good" or "bad" based on societies perceptions. But here, in a Christian forum, I'd think we'd be able to communicate with less offensive words. Plus, cussing is just the attempt of a feeble mind to express itself.

It has been getting worse. I don't understand poor language (or poor grammar for that matter.) Perhaps posts like this will help right the ship. Thanks!

Good Luck - You are correct, though!

I've complained about the loose language, such as the use of cr*%....among other words I don't think should be used. In fact, I was given an infraction a few years back for saying the same things people are getting away with all the time now!

One of the reasons I was Infracted was because I called another member a sm#%& a#$, and questioned his salvation. Today, we see much worse, and even though I've complained and asked for the infraction to be removed in light of what is going on TODAY on this board, I have been denied. I see it as a contradiction, but, hey, what are you going to do? I love the board and many of the members, so, I put up with the trash talking, and try to stay clear, as much as I can!

So, I say, you are correct. A few years ago, I was drawn into the trap of resorting to calling another member a name I regret, but not for asking how he could claim to be a Christian with the way he badgered and attacked me!

I do not know why the rules have loosened up, but the direction of this board's adherence to the rules regarding fighting and language seems to reflect the direction of this nation.

When the nation is willing to forgo following and applying laws that concern how people become citizens...it should not surprise you that no one on the board is doing anything about the decline in enforcing stated policy, and rules meant to govern this board!
It is a sad state of affairs...:tear:

This thread along with PMs from two individuals that have proven to be true brothers in Christ (no names mentioned here, you know who you are) have convicted me that I am part of the overall problem in this area. While I have not used the direct phrases mentioned above, towards one individual, I have used phrases that are implied and might as well have used more direct phrases. That is all the detail I will use in this thread, but will be starting a thread to apologize to the entire board for the disruptions that I caused and what I am doing to stop the cycle.

I think he is talking more about directing the words towards others, not the particular word.

Moderators cannot always "catch" the culprit using slang while reading through threads and must depend upon individual readers-----please do your best to report slang/curse words----no excuse for using curse words

Everyone has a different view of how much "salt" to put on a steak or potatoes

Col 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person

We do not allow a person to use God's name in vain. But there are hundreds (thousands) of crude, vulgar, cuss words that most feel inappropriate for genteel society or Christians in general. Everyone on the BB will have a different definition or line where we think "God approves X but disapproves Y"

My caution: try to err on the side of the most conservative style of conversation. Try to look beyond your own frame of reference (where such words don't even cause a blip on your radar) and consider the WEAKER brethren who may be offended.

As much as possible, do not cause one of these weaker brethren to stumble by flippant use of slang, minced oaths, cussing, etc.

(BTW, using pejoratives like "Jets fan" or "Democrat" or "old codger" may be going too far in this matter) ;)

Apparently cursing on this board is subjective to the powers that be. No real standard that everyone can rely on. So if you are going to do it whether or not you get hit for it depends on the mood of the mods that day. About like everything else. Good luck

As is using language to insult others; as is using innuendo to defame otherse; as is casting spurious comments about others used to demean others and derail threads.

I try not to use words I can't find in the KJV.

I believe there is a time to tear down.
