Right on. I have seen the "anointed" misused many times by preachers wanting laymen to blindly follow them without question as they do unethical things, Such as, You are not to question anything the Lord's anointed does.

Yes, this has been terribly misused by some Pentecostal and charismatics. Just point out the error being taught or lived out by some high profile "full gospel" ministers and this will be thrown out like a curse upon your head.

Agree with the sentiments above.....this does not apply to Pastoral staff or any other New Testament Church office. David also stated that in reference to God's chosen king of Israel (Saul at the time). Last I checked, I know of no such person.

 

God's "anointed" only applies to men under the Old Covenant who were anointed by a prophet. There are no prophets under the New Covenant, & we are all equal priests in the Priesthood of the believers. Only self-righteous wannabe high priests claim special anointing.

Dr Hunter is reading much into Scripture & ignoring certain Biblical truths. Under the Old Covenant, God's anointing was a visible event which was witnessed by others. It was performed by a prophet to whom God spoke directly; telling them whom to anoint. The event, with time & place, is often recorded in the Biblical historical record. This Holy Spirit "anointing" cannot be substantiated, documented, or witnessed. It is reliant solely on the claim of the priestly preacher that he was "anointed". Preachers of every denomination claim to be "anointed", yet cannot give a consistent, coherent description of this event. There is no defining difference between the IFB preacher who claims super special anointing & the charismatic faith healer who claims the same. It's a feeling, a thought, a whispered voice, etc. No, it's just Scripture-twisting nonsense.

Under the New Covenant, God no longer speaks to us through specially anointed priests & prophets. He speaks to every single individual believer through Christ & the written Word. Those are the facts.
