The best Jesus films

    Got any good Jesus films? I like good acting. Most of the modern films have poor acting (Gospel of John) but may be more accurate than some of the older films (King of Kings) which had astounding acting which also featured some of the Ben-Hur actors which was a very good movie. I was not very impressed with the Passion of the Christ, nor The Greatest Story Ever Told so do not mention those.

    Peter Stepan (the photographer) once stated that photographs were a lesser media to convey ideas than the written word. I suspect that this is probably an issue that I consistently have with movies of the Bible. These films have a danger, IMHO, of forcing interpretations that may not exist to the biblical text. For example, read a book and then watch a film. The book is typically better. But watch a film and then read the book. You will not be able to escape the film’s interpretation and character development regardless of the author’s intent.

    That said, my favorite is on your “don’t mention list.” :smilewinkgrin:

    Jesus based upon gospel of John
    Jesus of Narareth mini series, the ones both critics christian and not see as perhaps single best treatment of Him in TV/movie history!

    Hey John, I'm also not impressed with most movies on Jesus or the Bible, and sorry, no, I do not have any to recommend. Funny thing, we have and have had The Passion of the Christ DVD for years but have yet to watch it, but we will if we can remember we have it. We mention it, then we forget it soon after. :sleeping_2:

    What did you not like about that movie? (BTW, we're not big on movie watching, never have been).

    The movie will always be a disappointment when you read the Book first. Just saying. :jesus:

    Jesus, starring Jeremy Sisto
    Hands down the best because it portrays Jesus laughing and joking with his disciples and having touching dialog with his mother.
    It may not be 100% accurate, but it portrays Jesus as having a pleasing personality and not the SOMBER Jesus usually portrayed.
