A family statement is out on their website. A former colleague of mine works for them and posted this for them:

It doesn't tell much, but leans towards them all leaving the show - which is what we here locally wish they would do.

Except for a very public apology from the network prior to reinstatement of the family patriarch, leaving the show is the only rightl thing to do.

Keep in mind that there are approximately 1 Billion Non-Christian men in the world who seem to favor that sort of beard getting a pass from the media.

I don't think they should stay with A&E even if the network does apologize. Trampling on First Amendment rights is not something I would want my employer doing. Wait ... I am my employer. You get what I mean, though.

IMO they should all leave if A&E doesn't reinstate Phil and publicly apologize. I wouldn't blame them for leaving either way though.

    "Race, Reconciliation, and Phil Robertson"

    http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgc/2013/12/20/race-reconciliation-and-phil-robertson/

"Does that noble intent excuse his insensitive remarks about the segregated South? Not at all. Robertson is a public figure and when he gives interviews in the media, he must take responsibility for how his words are perceived. While I believe he was attempting to pay tribute to the African-American Christians who preceded him in the faith, he has inadvertently offended many of his African American brothers and sisters.
I hope his family and friends will point out that in a moment of inadvertent carelessness that he has caused damage that needs to be healed.
I believe Robertson when he says, "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."
But we must make amends for the harm we cause, even if it is not intentional. I believe he needs to do more to reconcile with those he's offended. And if Phil Robertson is the godly man many of his believe him to be, I think he'll do just that."

This response is beyond obscene. It is dishonest, inflammatory, and completely out of line. It calls out a brother in Christ for causing division when it does no such thing. "Joe Carter," whoever that is, should be fired.

If modern life were based on this precept, then absolutely nothing would ever be accomplished again! Somebody is going to be offended by ANYTHING you do or say these days; whether you actually did it or said it.

PCism is to society what sand is to a transmission; it will eventually cause a grinding halt to any forward movement.

I refer to my sig line! :BangHead:

does a network like Fox have the guts to really become he conservativenetwork, and pick them up?

    Maybe on Fox news network?

Give them their reality show, AND nightly news from the Duck perspective?

    From the GQ article:

Phil On Growing Up in Pre-Civil-Rights-Era Louisiana
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Phil was telling the interviewer how it was when he was younger, what he saw with his own eyes, heard with his own ears. In other words, what was going on in his neck of the woods. He did not see the fighting, the persecution. All got along. They worked in the cotton fields together, they sang together. They were happy.

Phil said nothing wrong at all. Someone decided to make it a racial issue in order to stir up hatred toward others when it clearly was not.

Fox is as PC on h*m*se*xuality as was Sodom and Gomorrah. Too many attempt to look at them as if they are the flagship for the church. They're not and are far from it.

When A&E cancelled him, Dog the Bounty Hunter moved over to CMT. Seems like a country channel would suit this clan more than an arts channel anyway.

I'm hearing you Steadfast! If I was asked the same question I could honestly say I never ever saw any black man or woman being used poorly. In fact I never saw a person "of color" until I was 10. There was Pete the Indian but I was told to stay away from him because he was mean. Other than that there was nothing but pasty white folk as far as the eye could see. Well there were a lot of cows but nothing but white folk.

So I never witness lynchings, beatings or white only facilities. Does that make me racist for stating such?

There was a time when my Daddy went on a rant about how it angered him that the Catholics got out of church before we did and took all the tables at the Tally Ho and the Brown Drake restaurants. I was angry at the Catholics for upsetting my Daddy. Do I qualify as a bigot? Please, let me be something.

What I haven't heard is if there are any legal counsels looking to take this case up on the grounds of vilation of civil rights and denial of freedom of speech. It seems to me this should be an open and shut case of wrongful termination/discrimination/suspension (whatever they want to call it) based on religious beliefs.

I don't mean suing A&E for monetary gain or anything like that, but for the simple fact that our basic fundamental rights are clearly being disregarded.

I have seen article after article saying this, but haven't come across anything where any actual actions are being pursued against the network.
