Not at my church ever again, I have heard him speak twice in person and literally watched him tear apart our congregation in addition to questioning everyone's salvation. He is a clown act and has not one fruit of the Holy Spirit in him.

I am not a fundy fan, but this pastor has Paul Washer pegged.......... the very essence of evil.

Video is basically snippets of PW (taken out of context) with snippets of the Fundy pastor rambling.

Fundy Pastor just jealous and trying to maintain control of his congregation IMO.

I agree about the KJV point. It really has nothing to do with that. It has to do with dignity and respect for fellow Christians. It has to do with a circus act that whips the crowd into a positive frenzy about Jesus Christ, then tells everyone they are lost. It has to do with folks who have been Christians fifty or sixty years being told that they are going to hell. It has to do with a total absence of any Christ-like qualities.

The fundy pastor does not change the character of Paul Washer. Feel free to listen to one of his talks if you can stomach the whole thing.

The unfruit of the spirit is often displayed by those who have no true message from God.

God's message that comes from a life filled with the fruit of the Spirit.

    As James states:

13Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

    14
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

17But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. 18And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

According to the testimony of the OP, it would seem the visiting pastor should have been stopped and set down to learn by those more wise.

I've "stomached" quite a few of his online sermons, I like the guy. The problem is that folks see one or two of his sermons where he is preaching with "tough love" and think he is like that 24/7.

I know you've expressed your dislike of PW several times on here, obviously I don't know what he said while he was there and don't know the folks at your church. I see PW as someone who is passionate about the church in America and believers being all that God has called them to be.

Since we are in to snippets, lets take a couple from PW's popular 10 Indictments sermon and tell me on which points you disagree with him.

JE, I looked back at the thread you started a couple weeks back and it still astounds me, not trying to pour salt in your wounds, but you said the church you attended had 2,000 members on the roll with an average attendance of only 150 (that's a whopping 8%).

Yet some here will tell you not to worry, those good folks are saved, they are just carnal Christians, they are ok, no worries. I'm sure some of them have been "saved" for 50 years or more, the fact they never darken the doors shouldn't be questioned.

Fellowship Is A Sign of True Conversion

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. - Hebrews 10:25

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. - Colossians 3:16

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. -Acts 2:42

God is Sovereign But Man Is Responsible

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! - 2 Corinthians 13:5

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1:10-11

There are any number of reasons why some on rolls of churches no longer attend. Some have moved away, some are going to another church locally etc. There is no reason to "assume" they are lost. Good grief

I didn't say that did I, there are some good reasons, but seriously, lets take his church for example - 92%? If these other 1,350 have moved away or are attending somewhere else locally, why haven't they moved their membership. Good grief.

The pastor at the church in which I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior and my Lord told a story about a man in his first church back in New England. He used to come into the church about once every two months, smelling of booze, smoke, wearing his sweaty leathers after having been out all night on his Harley raising you-know-what. His mom was a member of the church, and if he was going to continue to live at her house, he was going to have to show up at church every now and then.

One day, he sat down in his usual back pew, looking like he was either going to puke or pass out, when suddenly he sat bolt upright, stared at the pastor, who had just started speaking on Romans 7. Something in what the pastor said resonated with him, and he paid rapt attention the rest of the service, and when it was over, he steered a beeline for the pastor. He said, "I've never heard that explained that way before!" He asked several questions, made an appointment with the pastor for the following day, and spent nearly four hours talking, telling his story, and in the end, asking how he could know Christ.

From that day forward, he was a changed man. He got himself cleaned up, sold his bike, stopped smoking dope and dealing it to others (his own admission, apparently never having been caught selling), put together a resume, and got a job (he had a degree in education, but never felt motivated to use it) at a local high school as a history teacher and automotive shop instructor. He started serving at a soup kitchen (one he'd personally eaten at often in his drunken stupor days) and taking the gospel to his former biker buddies. But he couldn't give up drinking. He went through several treatment outpatient programs, finally in the summer, when school was out, checking into an inpatient program. He fell off the wagon six months later. He came to the pastor, crying out for help, God's mercy, God's removal of his sin -- and kept drinking. He even started dating a young lady at the church, married her, had two kids -- and kept drinking. He hated himself every time he gave into the urge, but not falling into the temptation was not an option.

So, I ask you, was he "carnal" or would you put another label on him?
I know I quoted you out of order here, but before I responded, I wanted to put that other issue out there in front of you and ask you about it, because here's what I see: Washer would condemn this man to hell. Many on this board would too. I've never seen Washer say anything that would mitigate my statement here. He would mercilessly judge this man and claim he was not saved. And again, many on this board would too. I never met the drunken ex-biker, but I trust my former pastor, a solid preacher and Bible believer, and he was convinced -- I believe rightly so -- that the man was saved, but couldn't find the ability to surrender to the Holy Spirit regarding that one stronghold. I believe he will pay in lost reward for the missed opportunities, the rejected chances at ministry, he undoubtedly experienced because of his drinking. But not saved? Nonsense.

Paul Washer would not be invited to speak at my church.

I think Paul Washer's messages have to be taken in the full context of the message being delivered.

Works will not save you. But there should be works that accompany a true transformation.

This is the same thing that I've said about homosexuals. There are strongholds in people's lives and a lot of times they are so IN that they have to convince themselves sometimes that what they are doing is okay because it's how they are coping.

They know it's wrong but when you got folks telling you all the time that you're going to hell, they just say fine and go where folks aren't gonna condemn them to hell.

Strongholds are real. And just because someone continues in a particular sin after being saved doesn't mean they were never saved.

Sure. We've supported Heartcry for years and we love Brother Paul.

OK. More Paul Washer for the rest of us.

Oh, no! You mean somebody actually challenged you in church?

So, are you exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit now, by gossippng and talebaring and slandering?

He's not. I've talked to him many times, as a result of our church's support for Heartcry.

If all you've ever heard is his sermons where he pleads for sinners to repent, then yes, he's going to seem that way.

But the truth is, he's very funny, loves music, including Shai Linne and LeCrae, and will be your friend for life if you talk about bow hunting with him.

I have found his preaching to be absolutely refreshing and challenging. I especially like that sermon that he gave to the youths about entering through the narrow gate. POWERFUL!

Yikes! If that's true, then not only was Paul Washer right to question their salvation, but the pastor and elders should be ashamed of themselves for not questioning it.

Thanks for that. I really wish this was one of those message boards where you could "rep" other members. I'd surely rep you.
