Can a person be a true child of God and yet incapable of accepting or seeing some truths? Another way to ask this, "can a saved person be deceived, thus blinded by Satan, so they cannot accept certain truths?

2Pe 1:9 But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

I ask this because some on this forum believe that if you claim they are blind to certain truths that is one and the same as claiming they are lost.

    2 Peter 1
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. (former sins - kjv) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
    ...

    2 Peter 2
17 These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved. 18 For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, 19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them. 22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.”

Two different contexts talking about two different types of people (saved versus lost). In the first, they are not shut out of the kingdom but simply do not have an "abundant" entrance in regard to rewards.

However, you are straying from the OP! Do you believe saved people can be deceived? Are there some truths you previouls denied and rejected that you now receive and accept as truth? Or while you have been professedly saved have you ever grown spiritually and changed to be more Christ like and changed from erroneous thinking to right thinking????

Have you ever been taught things you previously did not see, understand or accept? Are you currently teachable or do you know all truth and accept all truth?

    YES!!

....which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith: of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme. 1 Tim 1:19,20

These two were so decieved they had made shipwreck of their faith.

The character in 1 Cor 5:5 was also 'turned over to Satan' yet his spirit was still yet to be saved in the day of the Lord.

It makes no sense at all to say "you are entering the door of heaven - but it is not as wide open as it could be so you can stretch out as you pass through the door - so open the door wider".

That is not the point of 2 Peter 1. Rather Peter has something much more serious in mind.

John 16 Jesus said "I have many more things to tell you but you cannot bear them now".

In fact Christ often insisted that the demons not reveal His own true identity.

One of the reasons I come to a board like this instead of just sticking with my own denomination discussion boards is to get a good look at competing ideas and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.

    in Christ,

    Bob

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

This text says NOTHING about a "WIDE OPEN as it could be" entrance. The Greek term translated "abundance" refers to "riches" and thus the results of REWARDS. Peter does not deny entrance but only entrance that is characterized by "riches" because of disobedience. Riches have reference to rewards.

Hence, saved people can be spiritually blinded to some truths, even oppose truths that they later must be "corrected" and repent and believe?
