A poster brought up a important point and that is GREED. According to him many authors are ONLY in the book writing business to make a buck. While everyone needs to make a profit, I can't say its the only reason for MOST. True people like Joel Osteen, Warren, Brian Mclarren, Andy Stanley and such are probably in it to make a buck, but not everyone.

Greed is a big problem, and certainly a neglected topic as most pastors focus just on big sins such as hardcore, alcohol, drugs, and such, but ignore GREED. The book Radical addressed this topic very well and convicted me of my ways leading me to donate more to missions. But that said there are lots of people out there with good paying jobs that do nothing but spend on themselves. We all need money to live and me and my wife only made 56-60K last year and are at a living wage in Colorado so we do not have much, but are there ways to cut and ways to give more? I am sure there are. Frankly if I had no large debts our salary would be plenty to give to the Lord and missions. Ideas welcomed....

$60K? Egads, you made $60k and you're having money problems? I'm working 2 jobs to make half of that. I'd say you have a money management problem. I live in New York so that cost of living dog ain't going to hunt.

Man, you got to get out from under that pile of debt.

There you go again on your diatribe against Andy Stanley. I will bet you have not even considered pulling back the covers on Mr. McArthur's and GTY finances. Hmmmmmm

I'm the poster to whom he refers here, and I didn't say anything about evil or greed. I did point out that Mr. MacArthur makes half a mil a year as a "part-time" pastor and seminary instructor. Nice work if you can find it. And I didn't even make a big issue out of his book sales, other than to say he lives quite comfortably.

I have to be honest. The "lesser" side of me wishes to start sharing some of the same type of "joy" that he enjoys "spreading and attacking" about others. I REALLY want to, just to hopefully allow EVANG a peek in the mirror. I am betting that he is relatively young, and will some time see what he does.

This is not about me but about TRUTH and the Gospel. I am merely a SLAVE OF GOD and obey my master.

Seems to me you are more likely to "obey" MacArthur, Comfort, Calvin, et al.
    You mean, like that?

I respect that your desire attempt to be a slave of God. God is the ONLY one who possesses that TRUTH, YOU and I in our life time will understand little and live out even less, this is why YOU should use greater judgement in the application of your dogmatic rhetoric.

I think your understanding of Andy Stanley is as shallow as your continual criticism of him. I don't think you understand the huge step of faith he took when he and his team started North Point. Rather, your criticism of him and the ministry that NP has is based on the fact that he does not do ministry the EVANG thinks he should.

If you are blessed to reach some people with the message and method that you use....Great.

Grant that others do not have to share your methods and be grateful that they too reach others with the message of redemption.

What little I have listened to Adam Stanley, and that's very little, he doesn't come across as one who writes for profit, but to expand God's Kingdom. I may not agree with his doctrine all that much, but he seems to have a sweet spirit about him.

Thanks for your spirit. If we are completely and only surrounded by those who see things EXACTLY as we do, I wonder if our potential for being challenged and growth is present as it could be.

I too, have things that I would most likely "differ" on with Andy. But I do "understand" the mission that he and his team embarked on some 15 years ago, that being to create a church and environment which would be welcoming to the "unchurched" and/or those who departed the church for various reasons and for perhaps a long period of time.

Coupled with that, the mission is also to be involved in real service to our local communities, without the facade of "spiritual strings attached".

Let's all be honest for one sec...not that anyone's lying, but a figure of speech...if everyone on here was like, "oh, I agree with that", and, "why that's the exact way I see it, too,", and "hey, same here", and so on, everybody would change the channel because of boredom.

Variety is the "spice" of life...and it gets pretty "spicy" on here at times...

Oh yes I agree, but civil respect for disagreement should be sought. :)

Now, do you want to disagree so that sparks can fly? :)

Who said anything about civility??? On BB?? You must have the wrong channel. :)

Well, it's the dead of winter, and I am staying at the hospital typing this on my Nook, because the snow's flying, and I don't want to drive home in the snow. So sparks would be pretty sweet right now. ;)

Hey, I did quantify my initial post in this thread by stating I had heard very little of his teachings. So it proves my point by mistyping his first name. Maybe his nickname is "Adam" to his closest family and friends? LOL :D
