Since man is made in the image of God, I think its safe to say He is not a primate.

Do you hold that ANY of them were human then?

As God breathed a soul into adam, is that when real humans were created?

Do yuo hold that God used Evolution to create hominids from primates, and that he intervened to create modern man, by giving him a soul, and then God killed off all other hominids running around at that time?

Yes, after a few days of interacting with Adam God stood back, thought a minute or two [human time] and said, "I can do better and He created Eve."

Actually it doesn't matter how God did it. The important thing is He did it and we are here. What we do with our lives is what is important now."

Yeshua. I honestly do not know how all the pieces fit together for the creation of humanity. I think that there is strong and compelling evidence for evolution and particularly design. First and foremost, if and when EVERY detail is KNOWN, I will remain, as I am now, fully confident that it is the result of the creative act of one God, the Eternal (YHWH).

I DO understand the passion and position of YEC, as I too would have confidently been in that group. I have many friends and colleagues that remain so and I love and respect them to the utmost.

And yes, I think the "neshama" and/or "nashama" is important (which one applies to humanity and which to animal life I forget)

I think it is entirely possible that when hominids reached a certain point, THEN God breathed into them this "neshama/nashama" separating them from the domain of the animal kingdom and making them into the image of their creator (Imago Dei)

thanks! NOT a question to debate you, just to get a handle on how you view humankind and relationship to God!

    Sometimes 'literal' isn't 'literal'.

As I've mentioned before, at one time religious leaders claimed the Bible stated the Earth was the center of the Cosmos and the Sun revolved around it. They put Galileo Galilei under house arrest and forced him to recant over it.

If anyone is interested, the passage is Isaiah 38:4-8; best read in the King James Version to get the full impact of why the Church felt so strongly. Then go to a 'modern' translation and read the same the same passage to get an idea of how the Church in the time of Galileo made the error.

Does anyone believe the Sun orbits the Earth currently? Why not? (And that's not a trick question and is very related to the main thrust of the discussion at hand.)

Adam was the first man. Eve was the first woman. End of story. Happened just like God dictated it to Moses in the Pentateuch.

I agree with you, but was just trying to see how christians support the views of Adam being just a later evolved Hominid, one that God remade into his Image!

Did the Lord then wipe out those othersubhuan/protohuman ones?

Personally, I believe it is fitting for them if folks want to believe their forerunners were a pair of chimpanzees.

Alabama to Washington State - I'll just go to the Walmart-Super-Store 7 miles away but thanks anyway.

Evolution was one of the concepts that I left behind after being saved.
My favorite theistic evolution author was Henri Bergson and his elan vita.

His theory was that God created the universe then injected an intelligent "force" into it - The elan vital which over millions of years ruled over natural selection and "chance" to bring about mankind.

Problem number one with these theistic evolutionary theories is that death precedes the appearance of man on earth rather than the biblical model that man brought death into the world.

Second - it violates the scripture "after his kind" and "after their kind" by allowing a crossing of species boundaries.

There are many other objections but IMO these disqualify "theistic evolution" as a creation model.
