When I say allies, I mean countries that would come to the aid of the United States in time of crisis or need. I do not mean countries that barely get along with us for their convenience. Countries like Russia and Red China are not bitter enemies bent on our destruction anymore, but maintain a relationship with us because it benefits them as a nation. Neither country practices freedom, liberty, the Bill of Rights or has a true free market. Their people are oppressed. If the situation ever allowed them to take advantage of us, they would. Although not bitter enemies, they aid our bitter enemies like Iran, North Korea, and various terrorist groups.

The only countries I see as true allies are England, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, France and a scattering of Eastern European countries and some countries of the former Soviet Union such as Latvia. What do you think?

I will never forget the risks the Canadian diplomats took in getting many of our people out of Tehran during the hostage crisis.

If we ever get in over our heads, we will have no allies.

Begin to think your question has two parts. Allies of the people and allies of the administration and they probably aren't the same.

If Russia or China moved on us the other might assist us, if it were beneficial to them. With China holding all the debt they might come to our aid to protect their holdings.

One not mentioned would be Japan though I don't know how powerful the could be.

I definitely think France would be a trusted ally if the US got stuck. If for no other reason it makes economic sense not to see the US suffer.

I should have included Canada. Without a doubt you are correct about France. Why on earth someone would list Spain,Turkey,South Korea,Japan and the Philippines is beyond me. How can the states of our own creation, Japan and South Korea by our allies? The Japanese attacked us once for no reason other than conquest. South Korea would not even exist without an American presence.

Spain is not an ally. The relationship has been tolerance at best. They aided us during the Revolutionary War but opposed us during the War of 1812, There has been much tension with Spain over colonies in the New World and the island of Cuba throughout the years. We fought a war with Spain (1898-2001). Recently, Spain has opposed US foreign policy, and in 2004, their Prime Minister openly supported John Kerry for President.

The Philippines humiliated the United States by kicking our bases out of their country, after the sacrifice made by the US to liberate that country in WW2.

On that list, Turkey comes the closest to being an ally. The problem with them is, they are a Muslim nation, and have cause many problems in NATO, being an enemy of Greece.

Much better nations could have been listed as secondary allies.

    Yeah,big oversight.
    Hey there. "Someone" here.
    It is factual.
That's a bit of arrogance that I'm sure American historians do not share with you.
Yo Baby! What history books have you read? LOL! The war lasted 108 days --ending August 12,1998. You have got things mixed up.

Perhaps you are not aware that we colonized that country --to our shame. It's the only one in which we showed some overt imperialism.

You have skewed some things. Your perspective is not an objective one.

With exceptions, our "allies" are with us as long as the foreign aid and other freebies hold out.

Human greed coupled with Narcissism get in the way in the long haul, along with overt and covert imperialism.

    Peace and safety-----------------------------sudden destruction.

An interesting paradox. Why did we crucify the Prince of Peace?

"Father, forgive them; they know not what they do"

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    Great Britain.
    France.
    Germany.
    Italy.
Save time and space -- all of Europe, even Georgia -- yes, Georgia -- and Switzerland, regardless of their famed "neutrality," excluding Belarus, Serbia (toss up), Russia (maybe more than some would think, however), Kazakhstan, maybe Montenegro and Moldavia, but probably more "in" than "out."
    The Netherlands.
    Denmark.
    Finland.
    Sweden.
    Norway.
(Previous five are part of Europe, but not everyone knows that)
    Israel.
    Japan.
    South Korea.
    Canada.
    Australia.
    New Zealand.
Mexico -- ditto what I said about Georgia.
    Brazil.
    Argentina.
    Colombia.
    Turkey.
    Saudi Arabia.
    Qatar.
    Bahrain.
    Kuwait.
    Egypt.
Vietnam -- double ditto what I said about Georgia and Mexico.
    Thailand.
    India.

We've got a lot of friends, despite the Ignoble Traitor's idiotic foreign policy and apparent attempts to undermine the U.S. presence in the world.

Nothing is skewed, everything is objective. It is not my problem that you are historically challenged. How can anyone be taken seriously who spends time in a nation that oppresses its people, has no justice, has no freedom, liberty and does not practice the Bill of Rights? Communist China is less hostile than in previous decades, but is still basically an enemy of the United States. They are constantly launching cyber attacks. The only honorable work in such a nation is missionary, but that is not the case here.

I really get tired of hearing from someone who does not know what they are talking about, or ever lifted on finger to serve this nation, or any other worthy cause for that matter.

The truth is you do not care about the op. You care about continuing the back and forth. If I typed an exact description of you, I would be banned or get another infraction.

I have asked you several times to stay away from the postings I make.

I basically like your list. It is well thought out, and from your experience, you know what you are talking about. I do have one question though, since you served in the Middle East. Would all these smaller Arab states like Kuwait, Oman, Baharian, Qatar stick with us if Israel got in an all out war with states like Syria and Iran? Also, from your perspective, which is the greater threat to the United States, Russia or China?

Really? You're reporting him for saying that you've got your facts wrong and you're not objective?

For the time being, Kuwait, Saudi, et al would just as soon Syria and Iran blow up in the middle of the night when no one is looking. If Israel were, for example, to destroy Iran's nuclear program, these states would all issue very proper outrages through diplomatic channels, rush off to the U.N. to making damning statements, and generally throw verbal daggers, but otherwise do nothing.
Russia. China is not doing so much saber rattling as she is trying to overcome her inferiority complex. She's made some huge blunders recently -- trying to play "chicken" with an Aegis cruiser for example. But China has never felt like the world takes them seriously, and given their slow swing to capitalism, I believe the only real danger from China is that she will become a legitimate world economic power and competitor with the U.S.

Russia, on the other hand, is playing schizophrenic, paranoid type, to China's inferiority complex. That is to say, Russia is crazier and more unpredictable. Putin is an old school Cold War KGB apparatchik, and a narcissist besides. Pushed too far into a corner, he'd come out fighting, and that might mean throwing some of those reconstituted old "Soviet" divisions back into the field to conquer a few countries before breakfast, just to make him feel in control again.

My biggest concern regarding China is they might sink the U.S. economy with cheap labor if they ever decide to build something serious, instead of lead-painted toys and cheap rice paper dolls for world consumption. My biggest concern regarding Russia is that Putin might wake up with indigestion and start a real honest-to-goodness shoorting war.

It worked yesterday as you may have noticed, and will continue to do so in the future. I am telling you again, stay away from my posts and leave me alone. And this post has been reported. You two are going to stop one way or the other.
