    The possibilities:
    1. This incident is entirely made up.
    2. He was 'gone' for 45 minutes, but he had brain activity and made up his experience (the nurse or anyone else may think it is real).
    3. Regardless of vital signs, he was still oxygenating and he dreamed or imagined his experience.
    4. It was real-- IMO the very slimmest of possibilities.

I wonder why there is no comment about why he met his in-laws and they 'sent him back.' That is, was he asked about his own parents or family? Otherwise, his 'experience' is inline with quite a few others' who were near death, saying there was a bridge, or a path, or tunnel, which if they went all the way through or across, there was no return.

Strange that God did not have either Paul/Lazarus though spill the beans on life after death in heaven, eh?

Think he already said to us in bible all that he wants us o know this side of it, so take ALL such stories with grain of salt!

I know a couple of people who had out of body experiences but all they claimed was seeing themselves on the table. I don't believe that anyone has gone to heaven and returned. Be a little scary if someone said: You don't belong here!

Some women wrote a book about her "heavenly experiences" if I am not mistaken.

There is a whole host of "heaven tourism" books and unfortunately, many Christians have bought these books and highly recommend them. I think they can be dangerous because we're putting more stock in a sinner's "experiences" than God's Word.

Sadly that is true but some folks are looking for the sensational and others profit from it!

Yep. The "Monergism" site features this trip recorded by a Puritan several centuries ago:

    http://new.monergism.com/directory/link_category/Puritans/Misc-Puritans/Anne-Dutton/

    vol 3, p. 60 ff

"Another time I was under Illness of Body, and other trials. . . .I was brought, in a Moment, into the Bosom of GOD. . . .I saw myself wrap'd round with the Righteousness of GOD; and splendidly glorious, in the Eyes of flaming Purity, as I stood in this shining Dress! And from the transcendent Heights of this Glory-sun, I look'd down upon the perfect Righteousness of Adam in Innocence, and of the holy Angels in Heaven, and saw no Glory in these, in comparison with the super excelling Glory of Christ's Righteousness. . . .I beheld the Mercy of Jehovah, as a boundless Ocean, and myself in the midst of it; so that nothing could come at me but what came thro' a Sea of Mercy. No Afflictions, Temptations, or Trials, of what Kind soever, could touch me, but must come thro' this infinite everlasting Mercy, and by it be turn'd into Mercies to Me. I was indeed, cast into Mercy's Ocean, and delightfully div'd into its infinite Depths. And upon every new Discovery, I cry'd out, with the Apostle, Rom. xi.33. Oh the Depths! And in a Word. By this Hour's Communion with GOD, I thought I knew something what Heaven would be.: In the Morning, I said, with Jacob, This is none other but the House of God, and this is the Gate of Heaven, Gen. xxviii.17."

I seem to recall some book years ago entitled something like "90 Minutes in Heaven." It's probably not hard to find info, but I'm just not going to do it right now...tired and sleepy.

Strange no hell experiences, as there would be many more of them than heaven ones, i would think, as many saying theytook the journey were athiests, other faiths etc!

have heard on radio even pastors say that they had one, and now preach love of God, all will get saved!

since most say they saw and heard things NOT in bible, many come back saying God loves all, accepts all etc, NOT of God, but false Angel playing God!

No hell experiences which makes me think these visions are not of God but maybe of Satan. Suppose a lost person had one of these experiences, he might be led to believe he will go to heaven when he really dies after all.

How do you know that: 1)Lazurus didn't go to hell? 2)he had to "go" anywhere?

After the motorcycle wreck that tore me up so badly, I have a period of about 4 days of which I have no memory; none of how I got injured or how I got into the hospital. Is that-- nothingness, it might be called-- possible for someone who stays alive, but not for someone who dies??
