Oatmeal Madness!

    Someone in another thread mentioned going on an oatmeal diet, which triggered me to run to my cupboard and make sure I had enough of my beloved oatmeal. :laugh:

    Good thing I did, because I am down to just old fashioned oats, and that is so very limiting!

    I know a lot of people do not like oatmeal, judging from the looks I get when I go to a restaurant and order - oatmeal. Or when I offer it to guests as an option.

    But I love the stuff! Raw by the handful, cold, warm, hot, in a smoothie, what's not to love?

    What's your favorite way to prepare the stuff?

    My latest favorite is to take regular cut oats and put some in a glass jar. (it used to have curry in it, so perfect size!) I add chia seeds, raw honey, raspberries, some raspberry syrup, some milk and water, then I shake it and put it in the fridge, right before I go to bed.
    I just eat it cold in the morning, though it's also great warmed up.

    I've done it with other seeds or nuts and fruit mixes. I never really measure, just toss stuff in. That's the fun of it - if you have a concept of the liquid, there's really no need to mess with recipes. You just put in what you like.

    And when you have tons of empty oatmeal containers, you get creative. The cardboard ones make good baby doll cradles if you cut them out nice. The steel cut ones are metal and make good piggy banks or storage container for smaller amounts of flour, sugar, or coffee, or great in the garage to store odds and ends. :wavey:

    Old Fashioned Quaker Oats (the only way to go) cooked in milk for about 3 minutes and sprinkled with sugar.

    There is no "favorite way" to prepare oatmeal, unless it is buried beyond recognition (almost) in an oatmeal-chocolate chip cookie.

    Yuuuuuck. I can't do oatmeal. At one time I liked it, especially cut oats - but for some reason it tended to make me sick. Gotta stick with grits - aka. soft corn bread....butter, salt & pepper.

    I give my oatmeal to Little Debbie and she makes cookie pies for me. I have to pick them up at Publix.

    Oatmeal!!! What's not to love?! I love it hot and plain with a little butter and honey.

    And my grandmother made a baby doll crib once or twice from the empty carton. I would have never in my life remembered it unless you mentioned it. They weren't fancy like these, but did they the trick.

    I will pray that you will be delivered from this oatmeal madness. What's not to love??? The texture (I don't mind the taste...sometimes the taste of cardboard is palatable). Oatmeal….gross...but healthy (I'll give ya that). :smilewinkgrin:

    Now bacon...that's another story.

    Beef...it's what's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner....especially when wrapped in bacon! You are, Rev, a gifted pastor. I'd go to your church if I were local.

    These poor people who have mushy oatmeal - I wanna cook for you! It doesn't have to be like this. It's not the way it's meant to be. You're not cooking it yummy like. You can have a good relationship with oats if you'll just try. *weeps hysterically*

    Did a bacon wrapped venison back strap the other day. Just thought I'd add that to the mix before you venture into Quakerland. Now I could do a grits diet: grits with bacon, grits with maple syrup, savory grits, cheesy grits; fried grits.....

    Real oatmeal is made from organic grain, stone ground only, nothing but hulls removed, no heat until cooking for 15 minutes on simmer. Sweeten with unfiltered raw honey. Add a dash of real cinnamon. Real raisins and real bananas are good additions. Mr. Quaker has not a clue.

    Most conventional food is processed, refined and generally unfit for human consumption due to pesticides and herbicides applied during the growing period. Bad diet is the major cause of our maladies.

    Man has had troubles ever since he abandoned his garden and started building cities.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    Cube cut tart apples, soak em in water, in the fridge. Grind up a cinnamon stick, grab a box of raisins.

    Boil your water, for the oats(old fashioned), throw in the raisins, add the oats, apples last. Cin.goes in after it cooks.
    Mix in honey and molasses.
    Pour in some whole milk, or better yet, HWC.

    Eat 3 times a week.

    I usually have porridge for breakfast....made with milk...I like it glutinous with a dash of brown sugar.

    I adore ANZAC biscuits I think you would call them cookies. The ANZAC biscuit came into being during the first world war when soldiers would get packages from home in Australia and New Zealand. It was a long ship voyage and most baked products would spoil as they were made with eggs.

    So the ANZAC bikkie was born....made with oats, sugar, coconut and the important ingredient of golden syrup was used to bind these delicious biscuits together.

    When cooking the biscuits, anyone at the door knows instantly to be on best behaviour (due to the identifiable scent of the syrup) to play their cards right and get an invitation to come in for a cuppa and a biscuit.

    Apple crumble is made divine as a simple comfort dessert with a crunchy topping of oatmeal.
