Housing allowance for military

    1 Jan 14 saw an increase in the housing allowanc for military persone.

    Rates are based on the Cost of Living in specific areas.
    The rates are the same regardless of Branch

    The link here is for New York State

    Keep in mind - the amounts listed in the link is for housing only ( which is Tax free) in addtion to regular pay.

    Ever since I retired 13 years ago my base pay went from 2990 to 4532. WOW, that is pretty good for our troops. My Base pay when I first joined in 1978 was 390 per month. Where did I spend all that dough back then? :laugh::laugh:

    So you were an E-7 when you retired in 2001?

    and your tax exempt BAQ would be another $1434 .

    20 years? you enlisted in 1981?

    Mine went up $33. Unfortunately, increases in utilities and taxes exceeded the BAH increase. But it does cover most of the cost of housing...I'm thankful it went up instead of down (it helps compensate for the $75 decrease in pro pay).

    Being a retired military person (23+ years in the USAF/ANG), I'm very concerned about the direction that this administration is pursuing with regard to our nation's military.

    I'm not opposed to cutting some things that probably ought to be cut when there's waste that needs to be eliminated in these tight times.

    OTOH, our nation's commander in chief is determined to gut our military's morale to the very core.

    When one cuts the very benefits that were promised our military's brave men and women, there remains little incentive to retain the kind of people our modern-day military demands: Very highly skilled and technically capable people who can fight and win the type of warfare that confronts us today.

    We need to be very realistic with this situation.

    Why should a young person want to put his or her life on the line (and that's exactly what they do when they raise their hand and swear to "protect and defend" our Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic), when our leaders at both ends of PA Ave are unwilling to give them the pay and benefits these brave men and women that they justly deserve?

    I'm deeply upset over the trend that I see with regard to the disrespect that our officials on both sides of the aisle continue to have for our armed forces.
