Has. anyone seen the movie Son of God? The only reviews I have seen have been from the secular press with the exception of CBN. All seem to positive. I would like to hear your comments if you have seen the movie.

I have not seen it but I have not heard anything positive. In fact the word I have gotten is that in it they deny Jesus is God.

I heard on radio a chrisitian review tht stated that while jesus was virgin born, did miracles, died, resurrected, was Son of God, they refused though to state that Jesus died fir sins , nor that those who refused him were lost in their sins!

So basically jesus of the bible, yet without giving just why he came to erth for!

Interesting. This web site totally destroys "Son of God" for being Biblically inaccurate and lists example after example of where it strays from the Bible. This same web site says Christians should go and see "Noah" even though it is Biblically inaccurate. The reviewer of Noah gives example and example of why it's OK to be inaccurate and why we should just accept it.

Really, all seem to be positive?

RottenTomatoes.com surveyed 52 reviewers. 13 liked it and 39 didn't like it. Average rating was 4.8 out of 10.

    IMDB.COM gave it a 5.6 out of 10 rating.

Its the exact same thing that was on the History channel last year. Saw that then and thought "eh". Liked the Passion better.

I don't think it deserves either the criticism or the praise it is getting.

I wonder if there is a danger of “fictionalizing” the gospel through these movies. Kinda like another Marvel comic movie - entertainment, sometimes a good message…but ultimately a fiction that colors our perception. The gospel is not just a story about Christian values, and I just worry about ingraining a Hollywood image to the Word of God.

Or maybe I’m just still peeved that Frodo was so boring in the Lord of the Rings - ruined my perception of the book.

That's a common complaint about Bible stories. The big example is the little flannel board pictures of Noah as a kindly old man with some animals on a boat. He's always smiling and the giraffe's got his head out of the top of the boat, and children just see it as a cute story. No mention of the reason for the flood.

But if the movie is good and the message is taught, then I think it can be instructive. The trick is to not let the movie do all the work. The movie's just a tool.

For all its problems, when the Passion of the Christ came out, that was a HUGE witnessing opportunity for us.

When we would talk to people about the movie, we made sure to explain that Jesus was a real God who became a real man, lived a real sinless life, died on a real cross to save real sinners, and was really raised again on the 3rd day and really sits at the right hand of a the (real) Father.

I'm not planning to go see Son of God, but I certainly will be using it as a vehicle for witnessing.

    I will not see it.

There was a time when I was much younger that film makers who wished to portray the Christ would only show the back, never the face. It is my personal opinion that it is sacrilegious if not blasphemous for anyone to portray Jesus Christ. This is particularly true in the so-called passion plays that portray the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross!

I have heard that a 13th disciple was added to the mix, the 13th was Mary! Also, Jesus doesn't call Lazarus from the grave He and Mary go in the tomb and remove his grave clothes and come out with him at their side. :tear:

They added a few deleted scenes and that's about it.

Most baptist will pay an extra 10% of the ticket value...

Charismatics will "sow a seed" as they feel led of God to give above the ticket price...

Judeo-Christians will pay via two doves and a sheep...

Presbyterians will pay via a bottle of wine...

    :D

    Out, out brief candle.
Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player
that struts and frets his hour upon the stage
and then is heard no more.

To make sure I got the above correct I looked it up and found a little more, but what I recalled is not bad 65 years later.

I did this just for you C1.

The social news media showed the many actors that had played Jesus down through the years and they said this one as all the rest were too handsome. I will agree about his bodily appearance, all the actors and even the pictures of Jesus hanging on the walls look more like wild Bill Hickock than what Jesus would have really looked like. Issa 53:2 There is no beauty that we should desire him.

Going to be seeing it this weekend. I won't have a real opinion until then.
Heard there are mixed reviews. Also heard that the writers tried to make it more Biblically accurate than they did the Bible series.

I'm inclined to give it a chance and not necessarily write it off for being a little inaccurate. To my understanding, some of the old Bible movies that are often praised by Christians didn't follow the Bible to the letter either.

didn't the Passion do justice to what he had to endure for our sakes though?
