If somebody has not mentioned this yet, here is an excellent page for info:'

" Criminal hackers, as you might imagine, can't wait until April 8. That's because most consumers are clueless about the true scope of security risks. And thousands of companies, for economic and operational reasons, appear intent on continuing to use XP machines well after Microsoft officially stops supporting XP...Security experts anticipate that cybercriminals will move to take advantage.

Windows XP users six times more likely to be hacked"

Here is what I am switching to, it seems to be the most 'windows like' for beginners. http://www.linuxmint.com/release.php?id=18

Or Ubuntu (this is based on it).

Time for people to move off XP. Not a fan of Windows 8, but Win 7 is a good system. So is OS X. So is Linux Mint. I run all of them.

My son is a computer engineer, Linux and Unix certified. His advise: Use a Windows or a Mac product -- but not so much on the latter, unless you like a computer with an OS that is just "different." Personally, neither he nor I can stand Macs. The freeware OS's are way too vulnerable. If you have anything on your computer you wouldn't want anyone else to get to, move to Windows 7 or 8.

The writer of this article must be clueless as well. Microsoft will no longer provide security patches after April 8th. OK, so what? Are we to believe that hackers have a list of XP loopholes they have not exploited because they have been waiting for this day to arrive?

Are hackers, who pride themselves on being state of the art coders going to bother with an obsolete operating system?
