Let's go Salty, maybe one of us would win. I've never owned such a weapon and we may need it with Obama using his pen and phone to get his way. I'll pick you up on the way over.

No, I don't do bait and switch. Had enough of that nonsense in the funny church I grew up in.

I want to make this point before I address the OP. I am the furthest thing from being anti-gun. I love 'em, shoot 'em and own an arsenal. I live about 100 yards from the Remington plant that manufactures the Bushmaster line of firearms and Remington's variant of the same platform.

All my kids learned to shoot safely when they were 8-10 years of age. madre handles a 12 gauge like Carlos Santana handles a guitar. I can't wait for my grandson to get old enough to go plinking with PopPop.

That said on to the OP. What in the name of Sam Hill are they thinking?

First of all, there are two AR platforms made in New York. S&W is made in Springfield Mass. If you're going to slap the gorilla slap the one in your own cage but I digress.....

go2church, I agree with you 92%. You lose 8% for mixing your metaphors. This here's gun talk not fishing talk. Other than that .

This is the Church, folks, not the Rod and Gun club. You want to draw folk into your club you might have to raffle a rifle. We are beloved of God, ransomed by the shed blood of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Ghost (Spirit for you NIV guys). We don't need gimmicks of any kind to to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. We are Corpus Christi and we don't need no stinkin' gun give away for us to do our job.

To start with we have a superior weapon. I have fired my share of shoulder-fired, gas-operated, magazine fed .223's Nice rate of fire and decent knockdown with a well placed shot. The church can do better. Our weapon of choice,"...is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
    (Hebrews 4:12 NAS77)

What is the superior weapon? 5.56mm versus 66 books of God's breathed out Word. I'll give you a hint God does not limit you to 7 rounds in your magazine.

That preacher man just needs to stand up and preach the Truth. No games, gimmicks or giveaways. Just a plain account of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and trust that the Good Lord is sharp enough to get the right folk in the right place at the right time to hear those saving words.

Absolutely not. This sort of stuff simply doesn't need to be coming out of the pulpit. If they want to talk about that sort of thing at a men's get together outside the church, then more power to them . But this sends a very unChristlike message.

I thought making copies of Wayne Watson's "How Time Flies" and giving them to kids as they came in for a youth rally back in the 90's was a bad idea, but this takes the cake.

I wouldn't mind putting a couple hundred rounds through that rifle after church.

    padredurand,

I'm with you on this one. Break into my house at 2:00 AM and you may be leaving in a zip up plastic bag. But to use a firearm as a way of getting people into church? Puhleeze.

Home invasions are almost non-existent around here. The default assumption is there will be a firearm in the house.

If I was interested in getting some, I might visit that week. Not sure about routinely attending though.

As someone who is also pro-2A, I concur with everything said here. Well stated. Your family sounds a lot like mine!
