The more "fundamentalist" the less educated.

Independent Baptists and tongue talkers are the least educated people in America according to this pew poll.
    http://religions.pewforum.org/pdf/ta...nomination.pdf

Look at those with a college degree among American denominations. The liberal Episcopal Church has the highest percentage at 30%. Second to that is the mainline Anglican Church. Then PCUSA at 23%, United Church of Christ, United Methodist at 21% and PCA is tied with Evangelical Lutheran and Nondenominational fundamentalist churches at 19%. Southern Baptists are at 14%. Independent Baptists are at 11%. The lowest is Church of God in Cleveland at 4% followed by Black Independent Baptists at 5% then at 8% are the Assemblies of God.

Except for the Presbyterian Church of America there is no other evangelical denomination that has close to 20% of its members with a college degree.

In another pew poll it appears that atheists blow church members out of the water when it comes to education.
    http://www.pewforum.org/2012/10/09/n...-demographics/

Other than black Protestant and Hispanic Catholic, White Evangelical is the poorest educated of all the groups in the study. Can you guess who the best educated is? Atheists.

Also, church members are far more likely to get divorced than atheists.

Surely evangelicals have profaned the name of God among the heathen in this country.

It is a bad stat. It includes anyone and everyone who claims to be Christian. That is misleading and a severe mistake.

    We've already been over this.

The stat dealt with people who are members of churches.

The whole POINT is that far too many members of churches are not dedicated.

That's the whole point. Far too many members of churches are comfortable with divorce and doing a poor job of raising their children.

    That's the whole point.

And you did not address the education stats

You tried to make a point with bad stats.

Because it means nothing. It is an issue out of pride "hey look at me I am more educated than others!"

People need to get over themselves.

So... does it bother you that America is now 25th in the world in Math? It was in the top 5 40 years ago?

Does it bother you that America is falling behind more and more every year to other industrialized nations?

If you have an ounce of sense- it does.

So, it should bother you that Christians are the ones leading America in falling behind other nations.

Do you think that is good thing?

You are conflating issues. We are falling behind in math because our public schools are teaching to many other unnecessary things.

And no I do not see Christians leading America in falling behind other countries. You are just making this stuff up as you go.

I'm not making it up. I'm siting nationally accredited and respected statistics organizations.

The Pew Poll is used by nearly EVERYONE who seeks demographic information.

If it were the public schools fault, then Fundamentalist Christians and Evangelicals would not be falling ever more farther behind atheists in the stats.

    They would be falling together.

Though I agree that public education is a mess.

Still, you have Independent Baptists and Tongue Talkers leading the way in the most uneducated people in America- in the industrialized WORLD for that matter.

And most other evangelicals are not a whole lot better (well actually they are but they are still way behind atheists).

Cannot see this as a "theological" discussion in any stretch. We HAVE a forum for talking about "Fundamentalism"

    Ok, ok, ok ... instead of citing studies which no one on the other side, which ever that is, will agree to do the following;

think of the ten smartest people you personally know and see where they stand in relation to the OP.

think of the ten most educated people you personally know and see where they stand in relation to the OP.

think of the ten most ignorant people you personally know and see where they stand in relation to the OP.

Do not include anyone you have not met personally.

Probably shouldn't do this, but in light of the OP I had to point out "siting" instead of "citing" and the double comparison of "more farther". Also "schools" instead of "school's". Add to that some missing commas, and given the premise of the OP, we have one huge, ironic post.

Well, normally I'd just leave grammar alone. But I couldn't help myself this time.

    Talk to text fella.

    This is not a paper.

I know grammar at least as well as you do. I shouldn't have to point out that I am employing the talk to text feature.

But apparently for some people it is necessary.

Yes, I know where the commas should go in the above sentence.

    What a joke!

Next question in this bizzare thread, "where do most of these ignorant people live?"

And this brings out what everyone so far has been trying to say. This whole thread stinks of arrogance, intentional or not. The fact that you became defensive and started comparing yourself to me, and tried to excuse yourself, instead of laughing at the irony shows this.

That's the whole point. Degrees aren't necessarily a measure of intelligence. To say that Christians aren't as smart (since this is what saying "educated" is implying in this case) as Atheists, and base it off of how many have secular degrees is a complete waste of time.

It's the same as if I were to try and say that anyone that doesn't know demolitions as well as I do is not as educated. It's saying, "You don't know as much as I know in this area, so you're not as intelligent." What good does a physics degree do in the field of geology? None. Same thing here. What good is a secular education to a pastor? An Evangelist? A church planter?

I'm not saying education isn't important. Well educated people who use their education make an impact. But so do less educated people who use their "smarts". Skinning a buck, tracking hogs, milking cows. These don't have degrees. But they require intelligence.

The whole "I'm better educated, so I'm better than you" mindset is ridiculous. I'm not saying that's what you're intending, but I am saying that's how you're coming across. Take a step back and try and read your posts from an unbiased standpoint, and if you're honest you'll see it.

I've already made that point. The states with most evangelical and fundamentalist church members are the poorest educated.

The states with the highest percentage of liberal Christians and atheists are the best educated.
