University researchers have shown a link between pornography and approval of sodomite marriages. Some of these judges think that this is some sort of civil rights issue; others are reprobates themselves or have reprobate offspring. It is always some judge--never a popular vote. Sodomites are nationalistic but their country has been destroyed for thousands of years.

Sin is sin - wherever you go.

The term "Bible Belt" is not a name that we chose for ourselves here in the South. We do not use it in characterizing ourselves or distinguishing ourselves from others. The term was coined by H.L. Mencken, a journalist from Baltimore. He was the man who covered the Scopes trial and re-named them the "Monkey Trials". He was a staunch critic of the South, having called it an "intellectual desert", and a critic of fundamentalist Christianity.

His labeling us as the Bible Belt was intended to be an insult. He was quite ignorant about the South and had many, many preconceived notions - as do many people - until he actually came here.

When he came to Tennessee for the Scopes trial, this is what he said.

"The town, I confess, greatly surprised me. I expected to find a squalid Southern village, with darkies snoozing on the horse blocks, pigs rooting under the houses and the inhabitants full of hookworm and malaria. What I found was a country town of charm and even beauty."

H.L. Mencken was quickly disillusioned the Tennessee town, however. He soon said this.

"This town is a universal joke. There is no gambling. There is no place to dance. The relatively wicked, when they would indulge themselves, go to Robinson's drug store and debate theology."

This term was not intended to imply that Southerners have higher moral standards, but that Southerners are more ignorant and less enlightened than the general population.

It was not intended to be kind.

This is the action of one man -- a liberal judge.

It is not the will of the people of Arkansas, Bible believing or otherwise. It can't be said that the "state allowed same-sex marriage."

And yes, RD2, that's another critical analysis. Sorry.

There's some of us that grew up in the New England backwoods that don't particularly like being called "Yankees".

thank you for that information about Mencken. He was such a reprobate that he ended up a Nazi supporter according to his own diary, reviewed by the Los Angeles Times newspaper:

    That was interesting!

I want to thank you for sharing that! There are so many terms, from the past, that have roots in hate and insults, and knowing these bits of history is important, at least to me!

Yes, and I accept that as well as ....

.... know that, and that wasn't a critical analysis coming from you. It was pointing out what is happening all around this nation! The judicial branch is making our laws, and taking it out of the hands of the people.

Talk about defeatist attitude, a lot of us in CAlifornia do not even want to vote for issues any more, as it always gets overturned in our state supreme court, and if that ruling is appealed, the feds supreme court rules against us!

I knew it wasn't the people, I can read, plus I have friends in Arkansas, and know all to well how they feel! So, I don't find you analysis critical, only telling the truth!

If, God forbid, this country fell to radical Islam, the first group of people to lose a head would be our justices...the second group of people to lose their heads would be Hollywood stars, as they are able to do more with their thoughts and mouths and money than anyone group can do! Media types influence our laws and values more than the votes at the polls!

    God bless you Tnd.
