Spiritual identity means we are not what we do or what people say about us. And we are not what we have. We are the beloved daughters and sons of God.

"Today I personally believe that while Jesus came to open the door to God's house, all human beings can walk through that door, whether they know about Jesus or not. Today I see it as my call to help every person claim his or her own way to God."

“when the imitation of Christ does not mean to live a life like Christ, but to live your life as authentically as Christ lived his, then there are many ways and forms in which a man can be a Christian.”

I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

Speaking of Gentiles - not people who will never believe in Jesus but be "saved" anyway.

OK - THAT is heresy. Jesus said "no man comes to the Father but through me". So which is it? Jesus or "his or her own way"?

Mitch is just throwing some of his other quotes up for us to see.

Of course it is heresy. That's most likely why it was posted.

Only to those who do not understand that he is saying that we are to live as much like Chriust as possible.

    Probably your belief is incorrect.

Reread the OP and you will see that Nouwen is not saying this is not true. He is saying all come through Christ, but you and I and he .... no one knows all about Christ bringing his sheep to himself.

There were no gentile believers when Christ said this. Never try to limit Christ's teachings to our own understanding.

That has no bearing on it, at all. Jesus is speaking of his children. Never try to twist Christ's words.

    He said:

"Today I personally believe that while Jesus came to open the door to God's house, all human beings can walk through that door, whether they know about Jesus or not. Today I see it as my call to help every person claim his or her own way to God."

If one can walk through the door without knowing Jesus, then Jesus lied when He said "No one comes to the Father but through me". You can't say that what this man said lines up with Scripture.

And that is why He said what He said. The other sheep were Gentiles who would become believers in Him. I'm not limiting Christ's teachings but taking Him at His Word.

By Gentiles do you mean everyone in the world except the Jews?

If you are looking for the definition of a gentile, according to Dictionary.com, it is "a person who is not Jewish, especially a Christian."

And with the definition you have just proven Nouwen's point. Christ came, through his own words, for all people. Will all people be saved? That is a question far out of my league. I leave that up to God the Father and to Christ. Do all people who are saved come through Christ? Yes they do. Do I know all the ways that Christ brings his sheep into his fold. No I do not ... not does anyone.

    Thanks for your polite reply.

Yes. Christ came to save the lost - the Jew AND Gentile. However there is salvation in no other name and that is where we part ways. The quote that RevMitchell posted is heresy. The first quote was fine. I was addressing the second.
