"That which is perfect" - 1 Cor. 13:10

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:

Here Paul provides three propositional truths that are indisputable, all of which, are designed to prove one point. The first propositional truth in verse 10 is simply that incompleteness is superseded by completeness. He is not referring to Christ, the second coming, heaven or anything else. He is simply stating an absolute truth which is anything incomplete/imperfect ceases to be such when it is completed/perfected.

Likewise with verse 11. Immaturity ceases when maturity arrives or otherwise immaturity continues to exist.

Likewise with verse 12a. Revelation of yourself in a brass mirror is inferior to how others see you with their own eyes.

Since the coming of Christ, heaven or glorification will not bring you to a state where you have "all knowledge" as only God is omniscient (all knowledge) thus he is not talking about your own personal advancement.

He is referring to REVELATORY GIFTS (knowledge and prophecy) which especially characterized the prophet and were designed to provide INSPIRED REVELATION TO MEN. What superseded and completed this INDIVIDUAL inspired revelation prior to the coming of Christ was the completed/perfected Old Testament canon. Thus with the close of Malichi we have 400 years of silence until Matthew. No new inspired revealed will of God to men occurred.

"Now" with the advent of Christ and new prophets another body of scriptures were to be completed/perfected in which the revelatory gifts of "knowledge and prophecy" were implemented to provide the INSPIRED REVEALED WILL OF GOD TO MEN.

In lieu of this incompleted New Testament Canon of the inspired revealed will of God, the churches were provided the inspired will of God to men "in part" as in the case of this very epistle (1 Cor. 14:38).

Thus the proper use of spiritual gifts is determined by Paul according to spiritual PRINCIPLES (love, faith and hope). Thus the "better way" of love is introduced in 1 Cor. 14:1 and according to this principle as characterized in 1 Cor. 13:5-8 Paul lays out the proper use of spiritual gifts in 1 Cor. 14:2-41.

When that (neuter) which is perfect/complete is come (2 Tim. 3:16-17) then the Scripture takes precedence (Isa. 8:16,20) as final authority as the completed revealed will of God. Faith then has for its object the completed revealed will of God. Hope (confident expectation) is based upon this completed/perfected revealed will of God as the object or substance of faith is what "hope" derives its confidence (Heb.11:1).
