There are times that I feel some of the folks on this board exceed being nice to one another! And before you jump on me and call me a hypocrite, I am guilty of this same offense towards others mentioned in the attached poll! As Baptist, the world is watching, as is God and the great host of witness [Hebrews 12:1], and we need to exemplify and manifest a witness that speaks loudly about who we are as a groupm not individuals, and who we are in Jesus!

So, let's think about this being a Christian forum, and even though it is a forum with a debate format, what would you like to see more or less of from your fellow brothers and sisters?

As a general rule, if I can't speak civilly on a subject, I'll try to just leave it alone altogether or watch my attitude very closely. I'll apologize for my behavior if I get out of line.

Debate is all well and good, healthy even. But when your argument is based on emotion instead of logic, you attack the person instead of the argument...you're doing it wrong. The moral aspect aside, those things I just mentioned are simply logical fallacies, and weaken your argument rather than strengthening it.

    But.....

It's still a CHRISTIAN debate forum, and that should mean we act out of love towards one another and respect their opinions, even if we don't agree.

Example - ICON and I disagree feriously on many things, but we have a love and respect for each other, It used to be a blood bath, but we have learned to tone it down and debate like it is in front of the body of Christ, which it is!

You and I could sit down and have, is it Mountain Dew for you, and coffee for me and have a good, polite conversation ... even on topics where we might just have a difference of opinion. I appreciate that.

How can you not vote for all of these, even when you're guilty of violating most of them yourself?

The board needs more love and a whole lot less sarcasm, cynicism, politics and gang attacks.

Morning ITL. I do see moments of Christian hospitality on here when folks act like what really matters is presenting the face of Christ and loving Him and then our neighbors as ourselves.

But that hospitality is OFTEN choked, stabbed, pushed out a moving car, tied up with rope and burned in effigy when anything with a political element is introduced.

OP: What does the board need more, or less of, to please God?

It was a tad confusing . Are we rating the board or telling what we think the board needs more of to please God?

A long time ago, I traveled a hundred miles north of my home town to Wickliffe, Kentucky to see my college sweetheart (whom I later married. On the way up US 51, I passed through Clinton, Kentucky, about 30 miles south of Wickliffe.

At the south edge of town, there was a billboard, and it read, "Welcome to Clinton, Kentucky--home of 1,500 happy people and one old grouch."

That's sorta how I feel about the Baptist Board. It has a lot of happy people, who debate vigorously but civilly. And we have a couple of old grouches.

Actually, I think if you met those old grouches, they'd turn out to be pretty nice people in person. Something just happens when we get into the debate mode.

In the discussions I participate in, I sometimes have to resist the urge to cut and slash. I'm still learning how to disagree agreeably.
