Another example that wealth and fame are not good gauges of happiness.

As for Williams, we look at his success and wonder why he could be so unhappy or depressed that the would use such a permanent solution for what was most likely a temporary condition.

We shall most likely never know completely.

Freaky! I was just on the phone and said this exact thing to a friend of mine. The other thing about suicide is that it is a tremendous burden and heartbreaker for family and friends.

His TV show got good ratings but not as good as TV executives wanted so they did not renew it. Kind of like when a stock earns $.57 per share but Wall Street was looking for $.60 per share.

He gave an interview many years ago where he discussed where the majority of issues stemmed from. He was very open and relatable as a human being. While I didn't care for his raunchier stuff, knowing where he came from, what he endured, what he related to in some of the movies he chose to do - that is what made him my favorite actor. He used humor to cope with tough things, to survive. I can relate.

Another loss that just breaks the heart. I hope that somewhere in that 63 years, Jesus Christ spoke to his heart and saved him.:tear:

I would go with "The Fisher King." The search for happiness, finding the wrong thing, thinking that it's what you need.

True. Though as someone who suffered from depression in the past, I can say that when in it's clutches it's really hard to see an end in sight. Depression is like a black hole that sucks all your hope away.

I honestly barely recognize his name (along with the names of most actors), but I have seen some of his roles.=(

Speaking from the perspective of a person that .....

.... also has severe depression, I know how easy it is to move from being happy with life, to wanting to put an end to at the drop of a misplaced word from another! As for me, I am doing well, but it is a constant battle, and with the loving prayers of my wife and family, medication and access to same-day counseling when needed, my depression is under control!

So, I can easily see how Robin did what he did, and to be honest, we as believers need to be extra sensitive when it comes to those in danger of harming themselves, and instead of demeaning and provoking them, we should pray for them!

We will miss the stylistic comedy of Robin Williams, and pray that if anyone in his immediate family and family of friends do not know Jesus, that this shocking and tragic end to a colorful life, be drawn unto Jesus. As a person that has been suicdal, I can honestly tell you that Jesus makes the difference in my life, and I know He can do the same to those suffering from depression!

Depression is nothing to laugh at, and nothing to take lightly. It is also something that we should not make fun of and mock, because that keeps people from being able to seek help. It is a disease, ike cancer, congestive heart failure, diabetes, asthma, organ failure, deafness, blindness, even arthritis!

Some may try to put the label of demonic influence on depression and other mental health issues, but anyone who suffers from this disease will tell you that it is no laughing matter, and more importantly, it is not demonic. Sure, like any other disability, the devil can use it against a person, but, deep down, it is a chemical imbalance, and Robin's passing allows us to once again bring this disease to the front, and give it its the respect it deserves, because it is no different than any other physical disease. We need to remember, that depression can torment a erson from cradle to grave, and we would do well to develop a compassionate understanding to those who have depression! There is one thing that keeps me going in this lie, and it is knowing that in heaven, mental illness will be no more!

He really was a generational talent that had incredible range and no doubt influenced many throughout his career. Depression can be relenting and merciless. So sad that it claimed one of the greats.

I thought he was funny in Mork and Mindy. After that, I never really got his schtick and didn't find him to be very funny. Of course I said the same thing about Johnny Carson, even though Johnny had his moments.

    Now Carol Burnett? She's funny.

Williams was a talented actor and I liked him in a lot of movies and his quirky sense of humor and talent will be missed.

I'm a little more careful of using the "great" description. Not a term I usually use for drug addicts.

Which of course takes nothing away from his talent or contributions as an entertainer. Drugs are often a coping mechanism for those suffering depression. My acknowledging of that is not some sort of endorsement of a drug fueled lifestyle.

If it wasn't Tuesday, I'd be doing dishes right now instead of having just read that. WHY ISN'T IT MONDAY?
