Lots of Christians these days debate and divide over secondary issues but what unites the church are the fundamentals of the faith as outlined in the Bible. One of the books I ordered by Wayne Grudem on basic Christian doctrine I sure hope outlines these doctrines well which I would like to use one day to teach a class on at the opportune time. For such a purpose is this the best book on the subject? Does Grudem focus on the essentials or does he imply Arminian to not be saved? I hope he does not do this.

I have learned in my experience even the most intelligent, articulate and well-intentioned people find it extremely difficult to not allow "biases" to creep in even when describing the most fundamental essentials......which should instead unite rather than divide. I am sure that some are capable but they seem to be quite rare gems.

The only one around here implying that Arminians are not saved is you, you cannot seem to write a single post without saying something like this.

You remind me of a liberal talking to a black person.

ALL calvinists and Arminians who have been saved by God hold to the same essentials of the faith!

And all other people who have been saved, for that matter.

I disagree. The atonement of blood for sin is a essential of the faith but both view the atonement in a different way. Is a atonement for everyone in the world a saving atonement ? No.

Why do millions of people perish on this planet apparently never having heard The Gospel?

Yet, the Lord knows them that are His and has not lost one save Judas, the betrayer.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

That would be a discussion over the intent of the atonement, but BOTH sides agree that His death provided salvation for sinners!

By fundamentals, do you mean what is fundamental for salvation (e.g. Jesus is Lord) or fundamental to Christianity in contradistinction to other religions (e.g. Trinity)?

The Lord has not, nor will ever lose one of His own i.e. an elect one. Judas was not of the elect. He left to go where he belonged. Can you guess what place is being referenced BJ?

Aren't they the same though, in the sense essentials to be held as being truth by all Christians?

Not necessarily. The Trinity is a good example of being a hallmark of Christian theology but not a requirement of the gospel.

The atonement not only provided but most of all it accomplished salvation for sinners. St. John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished.

BOTh Calvinists and classical Arminians would affirm that!

Ifone denies the trinity though, would that still have the right Gospel concerning who jesus was?

I don't know that I have a good answer for that.

    But go the other direction:

Is knowledge of the Trinity a requirement for salvation, for correct understanding of the gospel? If so, most children are not saved like many claim.

Would say that since salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit, thankfully, none of us had to know all that the Bible teaches, but once saved, required to hold to a trinitarian viewpoint!
