I know there are those that believe in the doctrine of rewards in heaven. There are many scriptures that also teach that there are. Personally I do not believe in a doctrine of heavenly rewards hereafter. This is my platform I was nothing until God called me and I believe that it was all of his work and none of mine. He quicken me I did not quicken myself. Those who believe that they had to do something to be quickened they can have that doctrine. Paul states this is a saying worthy of all acceptation that Christ came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief. Paul was seeking his reward through the law though doing it in ignorance. He never forgot how he persecuted the church of God all through his ministry. I did not say there is no reward in heaven as others here understand rewards according to men. There is a reward in Heaven. To be in heaven with the saints of God and his Son Jesus The Christ and live eternally is reward enough. We will be in procession of all the belongs to the heavenly realm.
So what are the rewards in heaven? I believe that they are the blessings we receive as we live in this world and how we follow Jesus and how we treat our fellow man. Rewards in heaven is a works doctrine here in time. I know there are some on here that are looking for a crown. Why would you get a crown if you didn't do anything to earn it? I know I didn't. If I do get a crown and I am wrong on the rewards in heaven doctrine you know where it is going? The only place it can go... AT JESUS FEET!

It appears you've fallen into the typical Protestant terror of thinking you would be earning a reward if it's determined by your work. Sorry, but Emotional Theology isn't sure footing. Philosophical Christianity should have no place in our thinking. Rather, the word of God should drive our doctrine. Consider:

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve - Colossians 3:23-24

Scripture tells us to do our work, knowing that from the Lord we will receive an inheritance. And it's called a reward.

If your great-aunt leaves you a 10million dollar estate, just because you came and ate breakfast with her at a nursing home every Saturday for 3 years, would you think you earned that inheritance?

I would hope not. It was at her discretion, and she chose you before she died.

There are some who already know that because of their faithfulness to a loved one, they have an inheritance coming. They're not trying to earn it, but they also know why it's coming.

Stop being afraid of man-driven anathemas, and find out what God has to say in the matter

Paul stated that we as Christians will have to give a reckoning to Jesus on how we chose to live for Him or not while in the flesh, so there is indeed a judgement of our good works, in order to see what remains in eternity!

I've pondered this reply greatly beforehand.

Am I reading this right? Here's how I'm understanding it:

I am well aware that scripture teaches a doctrine of rewards, but I prefer to reject what scripture says

I am with the op. What motivates the rewards people to witness, to do good works or anything is the reward. Years ago I was helping a man dig out a broken water line by the side of a free will preachers house. It was a hot day and I ask the free willer to please bring me a drink of water. Of course he said, and he hurried into his house to bring me a cool glass of water. As he was handing the glass to me he began to quote the scripture Matt 10:42. Our rewards for service is in this life, Luke 18:29-30 Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren , or wife, or children for the Kingdom of Gods sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time and in the world to come life everlasting.

And what motivates some to do good works is the fear that they're going to hell of they don't "prove" their faith is real

Think its like building our heavenly Home, as the Lord can work only with the materials that we allow Him to build upon based upon quality of our works!

Materials? What materials? In His Father's house are many mansions. They're already there, they already finished. Now, I don't know if we each have a literal mansion or not. It could be figurative language Jesus used.

I agree, just saying that there is a reward that the faithful earn based upon how they chose to live for Christ in this life.

I go to prepare a place for you. For where I am there ye may be also. I pray that Jesus doesn't use the quality of my works to prepare a place for me that is one scary thought. This is a comforting one... My hope is built on nothing less... Then Jesus blood and righteousness... I dare not trust the sweetest frame... But wholly lean on Jesus name... On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand. AMEN!

But jesus tests our quality of good works done, in order to grant to us crowns we have earned to cast down at his feet!

JESUS PAID IT ALL! All to him I owe, SIN hath left a crimson stain, he washed it white as snow. He is KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS. The KING has the CROWN and richly deserves the HONOR. Since I am not a king ergo no crown. But we share in the inheritance with the Saints Of The Most High God and his Son Jesus Christ... btw his inheritance is beyond human understanding.

    I agree!

    Scripture tells us:

    Ephesians 2:8-10
    8. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    9. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    10. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Any good works we do are the result of the Grace of God!

    Scripture also tells us:

    Romans 8:16,17.
    16. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
    17. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

1John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Now what can be better than that promised in the above Scripture? I say nothing!

Do you hold then that regardless of how we have lived for jesus, how well or not, that all of the saved will have same experience in heaven?
