Clearly some hard evidence for the coming Mark of the Beast mentioned in the book of Revelation. Those that hold the Preterist viewpoint will see that they were incorrect although it will take a work of the Holy Spirit to get them to see the fallacy of their position. People of opposing eschatology views will tell me not to do newspaper prophecy, but clearly the newspapers show evidence for prophecy and the book of Revelation and interpreting it as future as I am a futurist. Eventually everyone will be required to have a mark in his/her skin, or they will face death. Beheadings are common these days, and I also read an article in one of the news sites arguing for a return of the Guillotine and it being used instead for capital punishment.

I would not get excited yet. They have been talking about this for years.

    *sigh*

Antichrists are always in the world. Their mark? They either assent to antichrist doctrine (mark on the forehead), or they yield their members to it (mark on the hand). "You don't have to believe in Sodomite marriage, but you do have to bake a cake if they ask, or you don't get to buy and sell."

Think Christians should rejoice in the"marking" of sealing by the Holy Spirit God places on all of His own!

This article sums it up best, I believe. The gist of it might be this section:

"The Hebrew spelling of the name Nero Caesar was NRWN QSR (represented here by English letters). The sum of these numbers, which match each Hebrew letter, add up precisely to 666 as follows:

    N = 50 R = 200 W = 6 N =50 Q = 100 S = 60 R = 200
    "

This view especially fits (as the article goes on to show) when we consider the well-known variant reading of 616. This comes from using the shorter spelling of "Nero", as opposed to Neron (the "N" being 50).

While the article makes some good points it seems to have a low view of Scripture, comparing Revelation with the uninspired Shepherd of Hermas rather than seeing the continuity and development of earlier inspired prophetical books like Daniel and Isaiah.

Check out the latest issue of National Geographic... Nero is on the front and the heading Romes Bad Boy... Was Nero really that bad?... They erected a statue of him in Anzio. Wouldn't his mother be proud... Opps He killed her and his brother, his advisor, others and many Christians... He burned at the stake and fed them to wild animals at his entertainment for the masses... And beheaded they say Apostle Paul and maybe had Peter crucified. I wonder how many magazines would be sold if we said Germanys Bad Boy even though he was born in Austria... You know who I'm talking about... Was he really that bad?... Ask any Jew!

Dude, any book on this will be far beyond what you usually read. This is as close to a popular level explanation of the apocalyptic genre as you will find by a top notch scholar. Plus, we all know you are on a book buying freeze.

2 suggestions: either get a really cheap tablet to read pdf files like this one OR print out the 13 pages of content so you can read.

Or dont confuse my mind by reading highly intellectually nonsense intended to confuse me, but rather trust my scholarly sources like John Walvoord, John MacArthur, Tim Lahaye , and Ron Rhodes, and verify what they teach with the scripture.

You say you are a Calvinist but I have to wonder if you have actually bothered to read any of MacArthurs books on eschatology? Some of which are deep reads.

    Here is a good one.

The beast simply represents the opposition of the "world" to GOD. "He or IT" has been doing that at least since Cain murdered Able and "He or IT" will continue until Jesus Christ returns!

Bad=depraved. There may be superlatives appropriate with depravity.

We can be more or less depraved, totally depraved--much more than an academic situation. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God; there are none righteous not one." This is a worldwide dilemma--without Jesus.

The Word of God interpretes itself--without extra biblical writings and commentary. Even the so-called Holy Fathers are not without error; in fact, quite serious error. Baptismal regeneration and pedobaptism came from misguided leaders. Their progeny are still in control in the wonderful world of Christendom. "God is not the author of confusion."

God still has a remnant which has not apostasized.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Read most of that article. What a bunch of hogwash!! So much time trying to persuade me not believe Revelation and not to take it literally and so many useless arguments trying to get me to understand the culture context of the time of Revelation in order not to take a literal interpretation!!! Pure nonsense!!!

Are you being serious or is this sarcasm?

I just keep imagining a seminary student listing Lahaye and MacArthur as a scholarly sources...
