If a person is (1) chosen for a task, (2) prepared for the task, and (3) and declared authorized for the task, has the person been (a) appointed or (b) commissioned?

Which English word best conveys to today's English language audience, the full message of God?

If Christ commissioned disciples to spread the gospel, what English word should we use in the verses where Christ commissions them, appoint or commission? Take your time...

 

Strange that not one poster thinks we should stick with the orthodox, traditional, and historic Great Commission. Folks, google the great commission and see what pops. Then google the great appointment.

My view is commission is superior to appointment. Am I the lone standout in a field of liberals?

 

Who wants to change the Great Commission to the Great Appointment. Silence indicates agreement, and thus when Christ commissions his disciples, the verses should be translated as commissioned rather than appointed.

I have not seen one person, other than myself say we should stick with the Great Commission.

Thanks Woody, we agree, at least on this point, Jesus gave His disciples the commission to spread the Word.

 

Accordingly a superior translation choice at Mark 3:14, 3:16, and Hebrews 3:2 would be commissioned.

 

And He commissioned twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach,

And He commissioned the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter),

He was faithful to Him who commissioned Him, as Moses also was in all His house.
