I happened upon Galatians 5:13-15 and found it to be interesting in that maybe each of us on the Board should cut and paste this somewhere on, or close to their PC or laptop to remind then how we, brothers and sisters, are supposed to act toward one another, here on the board.

"For, dear brothers, you have been given freedom: not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other. For the whole Law can be summed up in this one command: “Love others as you love yourself.” But if instead of showing love among yourselves you are always critical and catty, watch out! Beware of ruining each other."

Here is the same scritpure, but from KJV, and it doesn't change anything as it reminds us how we need to be careful to not devour, or be consumed by another. "For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another."

I'd love to hear your response and feedback to these words from Paul and how you reconcile a sometimes acrid, vitriol, oft stinging tongue when it comes to how you address another on this board - of course, it's all done by the name of debating - but? How about the name calling, and demeaning words-in order to get a laugh at anothers expense? Or, when you attack not their pinion, but their integrity and personal character?

I was wondering how some of you sleep at night, or pray in good conscientious, knowing you destroyed of devoured another here on the board? I was hoping some of you could reconcile the above Scripture to your behavior?

    I've been told ...

....That a certain member, the one who is well known for his blanket judgment of others, is now calling certain members "old white men" and as an older person on this board I say this violates board rules of being disrespectful to others, yet moderators do nothing.

I must ask where the civility of this board has gone to? Members openly call others names, and they get a continued pass. Is this board Christian in name only?

The civility of this board needs to be discussed by those who care. Which is the reason for this OP. I think that all Baptists who care about the witness of this board to the outsiders who visit here, need to demand that those responsible for maintaining order, maintain it.

I remember when I read the doctrinal statement of a church and they had nothing about eternal security or losing your salvation. So I asked the pastor about that. He said he believes in eternal security but at one time did not. He told me that he always believed in salvation. I found that to be some food for thought. He went onto tell me that they have a basic doctrinal statement and those things are absolutes. If you decide to create division they will ask you to leave. When I asked him where his staff stood on free will and the sovereignty of God he said it depends on who you ask. They are focused on reaching people, growing, and unity rather than so much on being right because as people grow and learn they will most likely change in some of the details of their doctrine because they understand and know more. When any church can claim that is has all of its doctrine right I seriously doubt it has a perfect relationship with God.

A few years ago I was challenged by an older godly man to change my words when I made a statement and then he asked for proof of my judgment. What it was is that I made a judgment of someone based on what I believed in discerning spirits. When he asked me for proof I had to admit I had none I could present to someone other than discernment. He said to me that I might want to change my judgments to "It seems". That leaves the door open for the possibility that I may be wrong. That one action has given me much more dialog with others with respect for them and kept me from having to eat my words so much.

But you just acknowledged that you are an older person. How is it disrespectful to be called an "old white person" when you are one? I am an older white person myself. I prefer being called "older" instead of "old" though. You are a number of years my senior. You are white. I'd say that "an old white man" was an apt description.
You mean it violates the board rules about being respectful of others.

As some people get older they get more sensitive. They wear their feelings on their shirt sleeves. When I worked in corrections we were taught to leave the job there and not take it home with you. A mature Christian is not easily offended. Learn to laugh, enjoy the board.

There is respectful and there is cynical and sarcastic. I'm sure you got that covered in spades? Right?:wavey:

Well that is the first thing I can agree on ... because a Christian should have no need to be concerned with cutting real believers slack, as real believers would refrain from saying things to provoke sensitivity, anger or hurt. So I would guess you called out the maturity of those on the board who purposely AIM to provoke others. I know I would not have to laugh at trolling attempts of others, but their is a difference between a born again believer and a troll.

No one should have to bite the bullet because the moderators don't do their job, which is to prevent members from PROVOKING others.

Thanks for pointing out the truth. I assume that was your intention mr mountain?

So after 2/ 1/2 years of me saying that some folks need to be ashamed of how they treat folks who come on this board who don't share their political POVs, and that there is NOTHING of Christ in the behavior, he posts the Scripture from Galatians but OBVIOUSLY has and has had a problem with what he is now Scripturally backing up as righteous judgment about the behavior of some? SMH

I'd say to the OP who doesn't read my posts anymore to stop trying to lay traps for me as he has for a while now. You'll only get caught in them. The more you lay them and try to make me look a certain way, the more you shed light on my very accurate assessment of how some of you treat anyone who doesn't share your political POV.

It took 2/12 years but praise God that the simplicity of what Jesus says is the 2nd Greatest Commandment finally made it onto someone's radar.

ANd isn't it interesting that he's upset that I in used "old, white , men" to describe a group of folks who used to and still do often think a certain way. But he, himself has no problem with referring to black people as more violent, etc.

    Gotta love BB.

    Two more for ignore....

My last few weeks have been as close to heaven as possible, because ignore has removed the lions who post here to devour, provoke, insult, demean, insult, and act the fool when addressing those they are joined with in Jesus. Man I hope they get their hateful, hurtful side workout of them before heaven, because I don't see God allowing such cheap pettiness in eternity?

So, I will forgive those on ignore, but now I know not to turn my back on acrid tongues. Like the song from way back when said, "smiling faces, show no traces of the evil that lurks within." As they say, if the spiritual shoe fits folks, well, you get the idea.

This board is littered with bad characters. You know them by the words flowing freely off their fingertips.

Now if this upsets you, perhaps you can forgive me as I've been told by mods to do with you all. So, laugh and enjoy the board, don't be so sensitive. Especially you younger folks, you're not supposed to be as sensitive as us "old white men" as opposed to old men of other colored skin? Hey I am starting to like this newway of letting words roll off my back. I hope you can do likewise? Shalom!

SMH. Some folks never learn. In tote, this OP is as bad as the insincere prayer.

If the intent had been anything more than another vain attempt to point the finger at me and my passing righteous judgment on his and the clique's abysmal, unChristlike behavior concerning anyone who doesn't share their political POVs, it would have been done in a general manner.

As it stands, it comes across as another attempt to create a "gotcha" moment for little ole me rather than an attempt to encourage people to obey Christ.

    Imagine that.

Would you call your dad and old man? While it may be an accurate description scripture also address how to deal with older men and women. It also deals with the attitude the younger person should have. Younger men are to submit themselves to older men. Older women are to teach younger women . . . I was taught that when in doubt take the safe route when it comes to respect. Always show more respect than may be necessary.

At nearly 94 he would certainly qualify, but I normally call him dad.

Here in China there is no doubt that I am referenced as the old white man. But there is no disrespect intended. I fit that description.

That's certainly not an old white man. That's a picture of a young boy pretending he can't hear.

I'm not sure if this should be classified as irony or cognitive dissonance or something else... but that turnaround could almost give whiplash. Warn us next time.

You have been warned ..... Mr Bosley, and let me say, that "resistance is futile!" Did you desire that I place you on ignore too? Or were you just being rhetorical in the flesh?

Well, I do want to hear from those who have something meaningful to say. However, I did grow tired of the sarcasm, insults, innuendos, judgment, and trash talk coming from the "Peanut Gallery!"

And while I can't infringe on their right to free speech, at least my spirit is no longer being subjected to and defiled with their attempts to poke and prod and provoke me into lowering myself to their level of humanity, civility and their form of Christ-like love!

Is it a hobby of yours to claim that you are putting people on ignore and then responding to them?
As an author --just what does "being rhetorical in the flesh" mean?
