who want to deny minorities their right to vote?

    Via the New Haven Register:

State Rep. Christina “Tita” Ayala, D-Bridgeport, was arrested Friday on 19 voting fraud charges.

Ayala, 31, is accused of voting in local and state elections in districts she did not live, the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

The arrest warrant affidavit also alleges Ayala provided fabricated evidence to state Election Enforcement Commission investigators that showed she lived at an address in a district where she voted while actually living outside the district, according to the release.
Ayala, who represents the 128th District, was elected in 2012, replacing her cousin, Andres Ayala, who was elected to the state Senate. She chose to run for reelection earlier this year, despite the voting fraud investigation, but lost a four-way primary in August.

The Elections Enforcement Commission referred the case to the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in October 2013, recommending criminal charges.

Ayala allegedly voted in various Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee elections, a municipal primary election and a state primary election between 2009 and 2012 in districts inconsistent with the location of her residence, according to the release. She is also accused of voting in the Bridgeport state general election in 2012 in a district where she didn’t live.

Democratic California state senator Roderick Wright was convicted Friday on eight felony counts including perjury and voter fraud and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

    Via Reuters:

Senator Roderick Wright of Los Angeles was convicted in January of lying about whether he lived in the district he sought to represent, the first in a string of criminal proceedings against three state senators this year that effectively cost Democrats their two-thirds majority in the California Senate.

“This is not what I call a victimless crime,” said Judge Kathleen Kennedy, who denied Wright’s request for a new trial in Los Angeles Superior Court.

She said Wright was no longer eligible to hold elective office in California.

Wright is one of several Democrats in the Golden State to face serious criminal charges. Senator Leland Yee was suspended after his indictment on racketeering, wire fraud, and conspiracy charges and Democrat Ron Calderon is fighting a litany of charges, including two dozen counts of bribery and fraud.

Wow, there is one confirmed voter fraud case this year. Better crank up a new government program to create voter ID cards and compel people to get registered and photographed by the government.

Voter fraud is extremely hard to detect when there is no mechanism in place to stop it.

There is a mechanism in place to detect it. Polling place judges, sign in sheets for ballots, mechanical vote counters, etc.

OK, not voter fraud, but voter registration fraud. (No actual votes were cast.)

Ding! Ding! Ding! Actual voter fraud. In 2012. As was the same year as in the OP. So, nothing (yet) in 2014.

    Worthless without a picture ID.

Again, a solution is being proposed for a non-existent problem. Interesting that conservatives want a government program and more regulations as a preventative action. There is much much more evidence for global warming than there is for voter fraud, yet when liberals propose preventative measures, conservatives go ballistic.

That's like saying there is no such thing as flatulence. No one can see it. Therefore it didn't happen.

    But the smell is there.

    Same with voter fraud.

    Lame analogy.

How many times have I asked for examples of voter fraud on this board? A half dozen times, at least. What I get is stories about dead people on voter rolls, people registered at two addresses, stolen absentee ballots, felons voting, etc., but no real examples of voter fraud.

By voter fraud I mean actual votes being cast in a district the person doesn't live in, votes being tabulated from people that are dead, unregistered people voting, people voting more than once, etc. It simply is not happening in statistically or even newsworthy frequency.

Again, if there is no actual voter fraud, why do conservatives want to create a government program, institute new regulations, and invade people's privacy?

Interesting that someone keeps making the false claim that conservatives want another "program" with regards to voter ID law. In fact it is not a program and requires no additional monies to be put to it.

There are plenty of examples. Just google 'em. I'm surprised there are any, since no mechanism exists to stop it or catch it. North Carolina has over 30,000 cases it is trying to investigate.

    Even one is too many.

That smell is in the air.

NO, there are not very many examples of actual voter fraud. Less than 300 in the past 20 years, if I remember correctly.

Most states are using their motor vehicle department, but not all, so there is a mechanism in place. But no more money? Hardly. It is likely that more election judges will be needed, more state employees at the DMV, at least in the run-up to elections. Every eligible voting citizen that does not have a driver's license, and there are millions of them, would need to get a photo ID card that is not a driver's license. Are you claiming that those sort of forms, instructions, and actual card format and layouts, software to generate them are already in place?

That's amazing! Since there's no mechanism in place to stop it or catch it.

But I believe the number is considerably higher.

I used to work elections. With motor voter law, it became impossible to purge the records unless the voter skipped two successive federal elections. Therefore, the rolls were jammed with people who had moved or who had died but who would appear on the rolls for another 4 or 5 years. As long as you are in the same Congressional district, you can continue to vote at a wrong address until a poll worker insists that you change your address.

What is happening in Indiana is that rich people who own two or more homes are voting in two more different states. One woman caught voting in both Florida and Indiana thought that one-man-one-vote did not apply to rich property owners.

In essence federal law allows for bloated voter rolls. States are beginning to use computers to double-check various counties against each other and hopefully various states against each other.

In the last election in parts of Cleveland, Romney did not get one vote--possible but not very probable.

Yes. Anyone can go the the DMV in Texas and get a Photo ID. Right now. Been that way for years. Many people do so that don't have a driver's license because photo ID is needed for so many other official matters.
