The other night night while giving a pep talk for a fellow democrat in Maryland, in a district that gave Obama 90% of the votes in 2012, hundreds of blacks got up when Obama came to the dais to speak. It was thought that these folks were sending a message of distancing themselves from their president as the mid-term elections draw closer.

Apparently he did not take this well, claiming these were his people, and they supported his policies. Sorry, I have no access to the link, but it was on FOX News.

    The OP:

Hundreds walked out? Don't think so.

President Obama hasn't been on the campaign trail much this election season, and a story out of Maryland on Sunday suggests that's a good thing for Democratic candidates' prospects. When Obama spoke at a campaign event for gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown, many rally attendees walked out.

The crowd of 8,000 was mostly African-American, and they represent a district in which 90 percent of voters supported Obama in his 2012 reelection bid. Nevertheless, audience members left "by the dozen" as Obama's speech progressed.

....Before Mr. Obama’s speech ended, a steady trickle of people had departed, leaving some empty seats.

Sending a message of distancing themselves from the President? With 8,000 people showing up? Don't think so. More likely they had other places to be because it took so long to get in there.

In a jam-packed gymnasium, Mr. Obama urged the mostly African-American crowd of 8,000...

....Though attendees had waited hours to attend the rally, many began streaming out just after Mr. Obama began speaking.

Whether the walkout was a reflection of Obama's poor approval rating or simply the length of the event is not clear.

Actually, Obama has not been on the campaign trail at all this year until this week. It seems that Democrats do not want him around. He is a boring speaker.

Do you simply ignore the real world and make up your own fantasy world?

8,000 people show up to hear him speak, wait for hours, then a few dozen leave.

Democratic candidates don't want him around campaigning for them, but democrat voters still like him.

If you look at Mitch's link, you will see a significant amount of folks leaving, not merely "dozens".

Reuter's reported this, are you gonna call them right-wingers ?

    This is a newsworthy event.

Where is Mitch's link. I don't see it.

    ???

Yes, but WHY is it newsworthy? Is it newsworthy that 8,000 people showed up? (That's a lot, and totally disproves the idea that democrat voters are distancing themselves from Obama.)

Is it newsworthy because dozens, perhaps hundreds of people left? Why did they leave? Because the event was running into hours before Obama spoke, or because they were dissatisfied with Obama?

Probably sounded worse than I meant it to, but my point is this wasn't covered by just FOXNews types, but Reuter's, as well as others.

I'm simply not buying they left a speech by the President in that many numbers just because the event went on too long.

    I missed that one.

Yes, and in my response I linked to NYTimes, CBS, and others.

Both factors--dissatisfaction and length of event--must have come into play. It's hard for the OP to argue that people are distancing themselves from Obama when 8,000 people show up and they needed an overflow room to contain them all.

As a board, we should ALL be careful that we look through and find out if we are stepping on a brother's toes.

    Shouldn't we ?

Of course we should. I shall endeavor to do that. I can only hope that others will try as well.

He went to what what is considered a safe district. He is toxic, personna non grata, in most districts where the race may be close.

Can you imagine anyone walking out on a speech of his 6 years ago, especially with a predominately black audience? Whooee!!

I don't imagine Obama, with his enormous ego, is happy about it, whether it was "dozens" or "hundreds". For him to comment on it during his talk tells us how upset he was.

    Definitely newsworthy.

Just more of the same. One person taking a cheap, pot-shot at someone else; namely the certain, nameless author of this OP?!?!? What did I do to deserve your wrath and ire, BC?
