. . . to "Great Commission Baptists of the Northeast".

    http://www.bpnews.net/43678/ny-baptists-consider-name-change

"Messenger Edwin Attaway of First Christian Church in Brushton, N.Y., moved that the BCNY's constitution be amended to change its name to the Great Commission Baptists of the Northeast, a name that would better reflect the presence of churches in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. Messengers voted to refer the motion to the executive board for consideration at next year's annual meeting."

The 83 messengers heard a sermon from Great Commission chairman and new Southern Baptist Convention president Dr. Ronnie Floyd.

Would this be the first state convention to adopt the alias?

"The Great Commission" was a reference that was given to the Alabama convention back in 2010.

I think this is the first time the name change has been suggested as far as amending the a Baptist convention constitution in order to change the name to TGC.

I forgot all about that name change thing. I remember the SBC approved "Great Commission Baptist" as an alternate name but that was a couple of years ago (2 or 3?...or maybe not that long?). Is this the first considering adopting the change?

It's the first I've heard of it.

I am from the BCNY -
I do not like the propsed change.
Yes, we do have a few churches in Mass and Conn; however Conn and Mass are associations in the New England Bap Convention. The Northern half of NJ is part of the BCNY (the southern part of NJ is with the Pa State Convention). BCNY even has one church in Milton, Ontario.

What I see as a shame is that out of 417 churches, there were only 83 messengers, representing 53 churches. That is a mere 12.7% of churches were represented.

Approximately one-half of BCNY churches are in the Greater New York Area.

My suggestion: Split the BCNY into two State Conventions.

And No, I was not able to make it to the BCNY annual meeting this year.

I propose a change for the Northern NJ/NYC area to Youse Guyz, New England to Dem Guyz, and all other locations to Dose Udder Guyz.
