Local Muslims wanting equal time for a religious holiday recognizing their faith were granted a surprise when the district decided to remove any Christian association with the days already calendared instead of giving the Muslims a day of their own.

So even though the district will still give time off on scheduled Christian holidays, any reference to Christianity will be removed. Everyone loses in this decision, but more importantly is this just the beginning of what is to come in America? Will every municipality eventually sanitize the holiday calendar by removing the referral to Christian dates?

I feel strongly that if you move to, or live in a nation with traditionally named holidays you do not sue or demand that the calendar be changed to give the minority religion equal time (off)?

For instance: the Jehovah Witnesses don't like to recognize or celebrate our holidays in name, but STILL enjoy the day off. I think the Muslims should do the same.

What do you think about this decision to drop references to Christian holidays to appease another religious group?
Has tolerance gone to far by imposing on tradition?
