I am reading a historical book on George Whitfield and I read that he and the Wesley's preached hard against the false converts in their day leading to Whitfield to just be a open air street preacher over a church preacher. Interesting how things have changed among Arminian and one of their leaders joined the Calvinist in this task.

It's Whitefield. And that's important because his name lived up to the biblical truth that the fields are white unto harvest.

Where did you get the idea that Whitefield became an open air preacher because of false converts in his day? He had his own church which was nicknamed "the soul trap."

As you continue to read you'll find the Huntingdon Connection rather fascinating.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but you make it sound as if you think only Calvinists open air preach. I can assure you, this is not even in the same ball park as the truth.

I took the OP a different way, I understood him to say that in the old days pastors and evangelists (despite their theological differences) would boldly preach repentance, and that believers "know that they know that they know". Whereas this day an age the "be sure that you have biblical assurance and a saving knowledge of Christ message" comes mostly from the Cal camp.

I've posted this before and will post it again, because I think its relevant to the OP:

Leonard Ravenhill would be a good preacher for you to listen to. I've never heard a more powerful convicting preacher. when I listen to his messages they bring me to my knees.
