The quick rebuttal to this entire argument is "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

If you want to open the can of worms, some people contend that the Sabbath was originally Saturday, but it somehow changed to Sunday with the resurrection of Christ.

I'll stick with the verse I quoted from Psalms. It's easier that way.

The Sabbath is on Saturday and b/c of the resurrection we gather together to worship on Sunday.

The sabbath begins at 6 pm Friday and lasts until 6 pm Saturday. Most of the NT church worships on Sunday (first day of the week) as a marker and celebration of the resurrection.

The Sabbath begins when 3 stars are visible in the sky on Friday evening and continues until 3 stars are visible in the sky on Saturday evening. At least in the Synagogues I have attended, that is what they have considered the Sabbath.

I was going to add some more options, including Sabbath beginning on Friday, ect, but I was just too lazy and wanted to do a quick poll - but two people posted before the poll was done. My bad- I didn't put a disclaimer . Oh well

If you're Jewish, the Sabbath goes from dusk Friday to dusk Saturday.

If you're Christian, the Sabbath no longer applies. Now, the concept of Sabbath is immensely helpful, but its just that...a concept. :)

Seems to be a definition your Convention's used.

Excerpts from SBC Resolutions over the years:

The sabbath is Saturday. Sunday is the Lord's day. They came together in the first day of the week and so do we.

The Sabbath was instituted under the Law to be observed on the seventh day of the week (Saturday) by the Israelites who had been set apart as God's chosen people and to set aside a day of rest from their labors and sacrificial works as a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ who would come and become the "once for all" sacrifice for all who would believe and also become the believers eternal rest from works.

The principle of resting one day a week is relevant to our spiritual and physical well-being, but Jesus has now become the fulfillment of the Sabbath law. Christians worship on Sunday in response to the resurrection and example of the first church in Acts 2. Any attempt to tie the Sabbath to a particular day today and insist upon its observance puts one back under the law from which Jesus freed us. He is our rest from the works of the Law.

Does it really matter, as long as we practice Sabbath?

Those who observe a day above others are called weaker brethren by the apostle Paul (Romans 14)

Sabbath observance is a practice for the weak, whether it's Saturday or Sunday.

All days are alike for those who understand their liberty in Christ

Mark 2: 27 says "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:"
    - even if you do not take a day of rest for religious reasons - it is good to do so for physical reasons.

I was just thinking of my days back in the Army. We have an big show inspection known as the IG.
At the 124th Maint Bn (Ft Hood) in preparation for the IG, we worked 30 days straight - and most days 12-18 hours per day. If we wanted to attend chapel - there was a service at 8 pm on a Sat.
After all that work - we failed miserably. A few months later, I was assigned to Wildflecken, Germany - and I walked right into an IG. Again, prep was for a month. But this time we would finish on Sat by 5 pm and no prep on Sunday. Our unit received an excellent rating.
    As PLL, I received a 98%

Hmm - did that one day off make a difference?
