There shouldn't be special classifications of crime. If someone murders someone because of race, should that mean a harsher penalty? I think not. Murder (and other crimes) should be treated the same, regardless of intent.

I agree, Matt. But under the current law, this is definitely a hate crime.

I have never liked the idea of "hate crime". It is the result, I believe, of political correctness run amuk but it is here with us and likely to stay. I would say the crime in the OP falls in the classification of "hate crime".

The worst part of the idea of hate crime is that it is usually applied only to white on black crime. The murders at Fort Hood by the terrorist Hasan were classified as workplace violence rather than terrorism. Political correctness did not even allow them to rise to the level of "hate Crime' if my memory is correct.

I agree with Matt too. hate crimes tend to want to punish people more because of what they THINK.

But am I missing something in this story? Why do they think it's a hate crime?

Well Hades must be all frozed up because I agree with Matt, and Zaac.

While Zaac asks a good question, I guess one could speculate about the victim's races being reversed, if the burden would be to prove it WASN'T a "hate crime".?

AG Holder has declared that a minority cannot be guilty of a hate crime.

Has any black person been convicted of a hate crime against a white person? Is there a record of that on the books anywhere?

Did this "hate crime" deal come about during Obama's reign or before?

Actually, I believe "hate crimes" statutes are a violation of our 5th and 14th Amendment rights and should be done away with entirely.

I fully agree. A crime is a crime. Qualifying crimes with the "hate" designation is silly. Beyond that it is discriminatory.

I edited my comment to read the 5th amendment instead of 4th.

    It's all about due process.

"Groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of the color of their skin."

Well, these flash mobs and knock-out gamesters are specifically targeting white people. Are you familiar with White Girl Bleed A Lot?

:applause: I remember when they first started hashing this idea around and thinking this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Not even downtown Indianapolis is safe from the knockout "game". There are areas that whites cannot go in this country, not even in broad daylight.

When you are stopped at a traffic light, leave room so that you cannot be penned in by other cars. If someone starts breaking your windows, accelerate and drive to a police station or somewhere safe. I lived in Chicago 50 years ago and they were already boxing people in at traffic lights and throwing bricks through car windows in order to grab women's purses on the front seat.

American big cities are no longer safe.
