Numbers to end seeming "white privilege"

    I looked them up. After these two little statistics are shown, there should be zero doubt that there is no "systematic killing of black people" by police officers. So, here they are:



    People killed by police officers by race:

    White - 71.1%

    Black - 28.9%



    Now, before anyone can cry "that's disproportionate to population", here's my next stat:



    Violent crimes committed by race:

    White - 69.3%

    Black - 28.1%



    So, the numbers match almost perfectly. An exact percentage of black people are killed per crime rate. This means that blacks and whites are killed AT THE EXACT SAME RATE!



    To top off this early morning stat rant, let's look at the word "unarmed" that people keep throwing around. In 2014, 115 officers were killed. Only 46 by firearms. In 2013, 100 were killed; only 31 by firearms. This just shows how dangerous an "unarmed" person can be.



    So, I hope we can put this whole issue to rest. There is no systemic killing of black people by police officers. They are killed at the same exact rate that white people are.

    I'm curious, Sapper...did you only search Black and White? Your number suggest that only blacks and whites comprise the people killed in altercation with the police. Were no Asians, or Pacific-Islanders, or Latinos killed by the police?

    The "persons killed" stats add up to 100, but the "violent crimes" stats only add up to 97.4.

    Again, just curious...

    Does anyone else find it ironic that "white privilege" was an idea made up by white elite's sitting in ivory towers. If we want to talk about who has "white privilege" that might be where to look.

    The percentages killed is only based off black and white numbers, while the crime rates are based off all crime.



    People, please respect the thread and quit derailing it. I spent about 2 hours sifting through political story after political story to try and find actual data, only to have people disrespect me and the thread.

    those numbers are the number of arrests by race, not violent crimes by race.

    If you look at the percent of violent crime rates committed by race they are higher for blacks. This can be seen by looking at the same chart under crimes like murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. So using these stats the argument could be made that the percentage of whites being killed by police for violent crimes are higher than for blacks.

    Well, at the exact same rate as their arrest rate.

    Since both Michael Brown and Eric Garner were unarmed, my question would be "what is the percent of unarmed people killed by police by race?"

    Hard to pin down number of unarmed blacks killed by police.

    This was interesting:

    A 2002 study in the American Journal of Public Health found that the death rate due to legal intervention was more than three times higher for blacks than for whites in the period from 1988 to 1997.
