Today at the Christmas party put on by our most wonderful PTO, we three 4th grade teachers took turns taking a short break in our rooms to get some cleaning done. It only ended up being about 20 minutes and with all that went on, no actual cleaning got done today.

Well, it was my turn and I quietly slipped to my room and began digging out all of the treats from under my desk that the students' moms had sent to fill up their treat bags. As I was bent over, pulling out bags and boxes and counting Santa pencils, yo-yos and candy canes to make sure it would be enough of each, I had the oddest feeling someone was staring at me....

You remember in Grinch how when he was taking away all the Christmas and stuffing it up the chimney and suddenly little Cindy Lou Who was there and he didn't know it?

Well, I stood up from my bent over position to find a little "MR." Lou Who had followed me back to my room and was watching me.

He said, "Ms. Kim, you really shouldn't be bending over like that sorting through all of that stuff. You might hurt your back."

I smiled and said, "I'm not going to hurt my back just bending over and picking up these sacks."

He was not to be stopped, "But you know, Ms. Kim, sometimes when OLD PEOPLE bend over too much it can really hurt their backs. You'd better let me crawl under there and get all that stuff out."

What could I say except, "Well, thanks for your compassion. Come and help me."

(I didn't tell him that I knew he was more interested in seeing what treats they would be getting then in the condition of my old bones. I wouldn't trade this job for the world.)

My sister teaches elementary school in Baton Rouge----one particular day they were all seated at the desks and a new teacher came in for a second and left----

    2nd graders now!!

One of the students looked at my sister and commented about the new teacher that had just left

Ms Taylor----that teacher----she so old lookin'----she must be at least 22!

    My sister then asked

How old do you think I am??

    The student says

    Ohhh, about 12!!!!
