What are some opinions on the topic of Men making profits from Christians and others discussing their understandings of God and the teachings in the bible?

Is this selling Jesus to the highest bidder?

    Would that include pastors?

I think it sometimes is the case....even with pastors. But it would be an error to make this a blanket statement.

Why would they not be entitled to the fruits of their labor?

Google "Bible + ox + grain".

Still not sure what the original poster is suggesting----I suppose he may be suggesting that folks like Charles Stanley or RC Sproal ought not sell their preaching series DVD's----CD's---Books---Booklets---or other such stuff that anyone else could take and improve themselves upon

I once had the opportunity to meet the late, great Dr. John Phillips some years ago at the Dr. Stephen Olford Institute for Biblical Preaching----One day during the preaching conference I found myself all alone with the great theologian and broke into a "chit chat" with the great Englishman he was

I asked the good theological doctor-----is there any advice you could give to a young pastor just starting out??

Here was his "Englishman" answer to me

Yes, Lad!!!! Keep buying my books!!!

So, on my way out of Memphis toward home after the preaching school----I stopped at LIFEWAY and bought his latest!!!!!

In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

    Any other questions?

Rev, the poster obviously has a list of "do's and dont's" that he's checking twice, and he's gonna find out who's naughty or nice. Implication being if we would only follow these rules God would love us even more.

We're doing Christianity all wrong. Putting up secular Christmas trappings, putting up Christian Christmas trappings, having youth groups, not going door-to-door to evangelize, hanging pictures of Jesus in Sunday School rooms, thinking there are no prophecies required before Jesus retuns. THIS IS ALL WRONG!!!

I've bought books and CDs from many a Christian man or Christian woman. And there are others that I would not touch with a 10-foot-pole.

I guess it all depends on if that man or woman is turning the gospel into secular merchandise or if that Christian man or Christian woman is ministering via those items that they sell.

I've been ministered to by many Christian authors and singers via their books and CDs.

    I don't see the problem.

WoW! I pose a question for discussion and 8 respond; 5 attack, 1 question and 2 opinions.

Unfortunately, not one understood the question. Ann asked was it including Pastors (which is not what I was referencing) and everybody beyond that point took it for granted it was and Reverend Michelle and ITL saw it as an opportunity to slam and misrepresent me. Hey girls, at least get it right when you try to nail me. haha :wavey:

Lets turn this into a game and see who can be the first to correctly understand and respond to the OP.

    Can I go first?

Should men be allowed sell the transcripts, videos, and audios of discussions between Christians and unbelievers regarding their understanding of the Bible and God?

    Er, umm...

Should men be allowed to sell the recordings of Christians and others discussing the understanding of the Bible and God held by these men selling the recordings?

    Wait...

Should men be allowed to give seminars and write books about their understanding of God and their understanding of the Bible and then sell this material for money?

Never mind, I don't know what you are asking.

Although I respond to you under duress, that topic is NOT what the OP is about. Not about PREACHERS getting a salary, not about CD's, Not about conferences.

You've got 7 people that have responded and they are all incorrect. Perhaps the fault lies with the composition of the question and not the readers? Hmmm...?

No 7 didn't. But again the question is clear. Reading it slowly may help you.

Well, the way it is written I can't tell if men holding discussions are making profits from Christians and others or if men are making profits from discussions held between Christians and others. Sorry, but it's clumsily written.

Moreso the latter. But let's give it a bit, I would like to see if any one else can get the point with out me re phrasing it.

Still seems rightly written to me as I re read it.

So the owners of Baptist Board should not be profiting from this discussion board via the sale of advertising? Is that it?

By your own OP in the welcome forum, you declared yourself to be "new" to the message board community.

Perhaps since many of us who have been here for years have misunderstood you - maybe it is your phrasing that needs polishing.

It's very easy to misunderstand people when you don't have facial expressions, vocal inflections, and hand gestures to add to the message.

No argument to the contrary here. As for the facial expressions yep and the hand gestures, two of the attackers can be assured I'm using a hand gesture in there general direction. [/Insert rolling on the floor laughing icon] [/insert thankful for forginess Icon]
