Why are pseudonyms so popular on this board where the main issue is Christianity from the Baptistic perspective.

It seems that well over 90 percent of those I've encountered here use one. Contrast that to Facebook where anything goes and where I have 230 "Friends" and none use pseudonyms.

Actually, I know a lot of people on Facebook who use pseudonyms. Additionally, on boards, we can't control our privacy but on a place like Facebook, we have some bit of control as to who we are friends with and who is able to see our postings.

It's a safety issue. The whole world, literally, from the harmless to those who prowl the net looking for those TO harm have read the Baptist Board and countless other sites. To put one's real name is not advisable anywhere on the net.

At least on Facebook, you can control who reads your page to some extent.

Yes, the BB is a place where Christians can meet, but here you have to be approved to be a member.

On the other forum that is also a great place for Christians of all denominations to be where I am a moderator, all you have to do it sign up. You would not believe the evil that is deleted every day by we who moderate there. Links mostly - links to the profane, the unbiblical, the cults, and the stupid.

And...on that board where we HEAVILY moderate, counsel, encourage, and debate, there has been one man who left his wife to marry a woman he met there and there have been two men who met on the forum and are now in a relationship.

I only knew two of these people and they seemed as harmless as doves, but it was not so.

Pseudonyms are the only wise way to go when becoming members of forums.

Because there are crazy people on here, who do things like threaten to invade your personal life by calling your pastor. It would be nice if we could all participate on this board without the fear that some person gets their feelings hurt and doesn't know how to properly deal with it, but unfortunately...it happens.

okay, so now I'm having anxiety. ;)

lol, I could care less if someone called my Pastor or my wife or my dad or my supervisor at work or well anybody. UNLESS, they were ugly to them and then we would look over the verse that says "take now two swords" and I would provide the modern day equivalent. wink, wink, nod, nod.
and should I assume your's is a pseudonym?
